LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's Athletic Director Bob Grisham Bob Grisham announced Saints' cross country and track and field head coach Jim Brewer will resign effective immediately to pursue a different career path.
 
In addition, Grisham announced assistant coach Scott Carter will assume the role of interim head coach going into the 2021-22 season.
 
"I want to thank Jim Brewer for his commitment to the University, the track & field program and to all the student-athletes over the years," said Grisham. "I want to wish him and his family the best as they explore future opportunities."
 
During his seven seasons as a head coach, Brewer coached the Saints' first-ever NCAA national champion in high jumper Mikel Smith. Along with the two national championships with Smith, Saint Martin's had 11 All-Americans, 12 GNAC champions and numerous GNAC All-Academic selections.
 
"Moving forward I am appointing assistant coach Scott Carter to the position of interim head coach for the 2021-22 year," Grisham stated. "We are looking forward to seeing where Scott can take the program, and the success he will bring both on and off the track."
 
Carter joined the Saints' staff in 2019, and during his first season, was instrumental in the coaching of All-Americans Keshara Romain and Tyler Cronk. Before coming to Lacey, Carter was the head coach at Pope John Paul II High School in Lacey. At the University of Wyoming, Carter was an All-American, three-time Mountain West champion and a 12-time all-conference selection.
