PORTLAND, Ore. -  Alaska Anchorage guard Brian McGill and Western Oregon forward Dana Goularte have been selected the GNAC Red Lion Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the Week of Dec. 2-8.

McGill had 29 points and 10 assists leading UAA to a 96-76 win over state-rival Alaska Fairbanks.  Goularte, meanwhile, had 45 points and 24 rebounds as the Wolves split two contests.

McGill’s 29 points equaled the fifth highest in GNAC history in which the player also recorded at least 10 assists.  

Men - Brian McGill, Alaska Anchorage (G, 6-2, So., Clackamas, OR) scored 29 points and also had 10 assists to lead the Seawolves to a 96-76 win over Alaska Fairbanks Saturday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.  McGill, a transfer from Western Oregon, made eight of 13 shots, including two of three three-pointers.  He also converted on 11 of 12 foul shots.  On the season, McGill ranks fifth in the GNAC in scoring (17.2) and second in assists (6.2).

Honorable Mention -  Austin Bragg, Western Washington (C, 6-9, Sr., Longview, WA – Mark Morris & Clark CC); David Downs, Seattle Pacific (G, 6-2, Sr., Kirkland, WA – Bellevue Christian); Ryan Rogers, Saint Martin’s (F, 6-4, 215, Jr., Auburn, WA – Lower Columbia); Michael Loomis, Northwest Nazarene (G, 6-6, Fr., Tualatin, OR – Horizon Christian); Taylor Dunn, Simon Fraser (G, 6-4, Sr., Vancouver, WA – Clackamas CC); Andy Avgi, Western Oregon (F, 6-6, So., Woodburn, OR); Mark McLaughlin, Central Washington (G, 6-6, Sr., Bothell, WA – Inglemoor & Tacoma CC).

Women - Dana Goularte, Western Oregon (F, Jr., Port Orchard, WA – South Kitsap) averaged a double-double (22 ½ points, 12 rebounds) in the Wolves’ loss to No. 18 Northwest Nazarene and victory over Central Washington. Goularte shot .538 (14-26) from the floor and .800 (16-20) from the free throw line. She racked up four assists and six blocks and became the first WOU player since 2005 to grab 17 rebounds in a game when she accomplished the feat against NNU on Thursday. "She had one of the best all around performances I've ever seen,” WOU coach Holli Howard-Carpenter said.  “She defended, made some great passes and was a beast on the boards." The double-figure scoring performances gave her 22 total in her career, and her double-double Thursday was the eighth of her career and third this season.
