Red Leafs & Crisologo Continue To Lead GNAC At Regional

LAS CRUCES, N.M.  –  Simon Fraser’s Michael Crisologo and the rest of the Red Leafs continue to lead the conference after the second day of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Golf West Regional in Las Cruces, N.M.

Crisologo carded a 4-over-par 75 on the second day of the tournament, bringing his two-round score to 2-over-par 144. The score put Crisologo in a five-way tie for 25th heading into the final day of the west regional. He carded three birdies on his second trip through the course, including two on the back nine.

As a team, Simon Fraser finished the day in 11th with a two-round score of 588. The Red Leafs followed up their 292 on Thursday with a 296 on their second day. Western Washington sits eight strokes back from Simon Fraser in 18th with a two-day score of 596 (298-298). Northwest Nazarene’s Grayson Giboney is 105th with a two-round score of 163 (80-83) heading into the final day of the tournament.

Western Washington’s Peter Dionne-Yahr is just one stroke behind Crisologo after two days with a score of 3-over-par 145. Dionne-Yahr bounced back from a 3-over-par 74 on the first day of the regional with an even-par 71 on his second trip through the course, carding three birdies on the front nine in the process.

Reigning GNAC Freshman of the Year Denby Carswell is tied for 35th in the 108 golfer field after carding a 1-over-par 72 on Friday to bring his two-day score to 4-over-par 146. The Red Leaf picked up four more birdies on the second day of his NCAA Championships debut.

Simon Fraser’s Brendan O’Brien sits in a tie for 47th with a score of 5-over-par 147. O’Brien improved by three strokes on his second trip through the University Golf Course, carding a 1-over-par 72 on Friday to help the Red Leafs stay within touching distance of the teams ahead. Justin Bjornson rounded out the scoring effort for the Red Leafs on Friday with a 5-over-par 77, bringing his two-day score to 9-over-par 151 to tie for 72nd.

The Vikings’ Matteo Polla is tied for 54th in the field with a two-day score of 6-over-par 148 after shooting 3-over-par 74 on both days of the tournament. Western Washington’s Ryan Ho also finished the second day of the tournament with a two-round score of 9-over-par 151 after carding a 5-over-par 76 on Friday that included three birdies to round out the scoring effort for the day.

The NCCA West Regional concludes tomorrow with the final round of the tournament teeing off at 7:30 a.m. (Pacific).
