PORTLAND, Ore. – The conference fall golf season wrapped up in Hawaii last week with Saint Martin’s senior Max Turnquist and Western Washington freshman Emma Worgum leading the way and picking up GNAC Player of the Week awards.

Turnquist was named the Men’s Golf Player of the Week after he posted a pair of top-10 finishes. At the HPU Sharks Shootout on Tuesday and Wednesday, Turnquist tied for sixth with a two-round score of 6-under-par 138 to lead all conference golfers. Shifting to the Big Island and the Dennis Rose Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Turnquist was among six players tied for 10th place with a score of 1-over-par 141.

Worgum earned Women’s Golf Player of the Week honors. The freshman tied for 16th place at the HPU Sharks Shootout with a score of 6-over-par 150. At the Dennis Rose Invitational, Worgum landed in a three-way tie for second with a score of even-par 144, two strokes off the pace. Her first-round score of 3-under-par 69 tied for the third-lowest round in GNAC women’s golf history.

The Vikings also landed the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week in senior outside hitter Calley Heilborn, who averaged five kills and 4.67 digs per set in a pair of road victories. She opened the week with 23 kills and 23 digs with two aces and four blocks in Thursday’s four-set win at Northwest Nazarene. Heilborn added a 22-kill, 19-dig performance in Saturday’s five-set win at Central Washington to go with five blocks and two assists.

Central Washington sophomore middle blocker Emma Daoud-Hebert picked up Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors after she averaged 1.75 blocks and 2.62 kills per set in two matches. She finished with six blocks, 11 kills and a .588 hitting percentage in Thursday’s three-set sweep of Simon Fraser before contributing eight blocks and 10 kills against Western Washington.

Northwest Nazarene junior forward Madison Grande earned the final Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2022 season after she scored two goals in Thursday’s 3-1 victory at Montana State Billings. She finished with 11 shots on the week.

Simon Fraser senior goalkeeper Nicole Anderson received Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for her two shutouts that helped the Red Leafs clinch a GNAC Championships berth. Anderson made four saves in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Saint Martin’s and eight more stops in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Western Oregon.

Seattle Pacific swept the men’s soccer weekly awards. Senior forward Owen Gortner earned the offensive award after he scored both of the Falcons’ goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Western Washington. Senior defender Ed Weise took the defensive honor for his work in anchoring the backfield and contributing an assist on the game-winning goal.

MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE
Owen Gortner
(Seattle Pacific, F, 6-1, Sr., Bellevue, Wash. – Loyola Marymount Univ.): Gortner scored both of Seattle Pacific’s goals as the Falcons collected a 2-1 win over Western Washington on Saturday. Gortner played 67 minutes in the match and had three shots. Also Nominated: Callum Bryan (Montana State Billings), Jake Levine (Northwest Nazarene), Niko Papakyriakopoulos (Simon Fraser), Andrew Rotter (Western Washington).

MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE
Ed Weise
(Seattle Pacific, D, 6-1, Sr., Redmond, Wash. – Eastlake): Weise anchored the Seattle Pacific defense for 85 minutes in the Falcons’ 2-1 win over Western Washington on Saturday. The Falcons allowed the Vikings just six shots in the match, none in the first half, and only three on goal. Weise also had an assist on the what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. Also Nominated: Guillermo Gonzalez (Montana State Billings), Justyn Sandhu (Simon Fraser).

WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE
Madison Grande
(Northwest Nazarene, F. 5-5, Jr., Gig Harbor, Wash. – Concordia (Ore.) Univ.): Grande scored two of the Nighthawks’ three goals in Thursday’s 3-1 victory at Montana State Billings, netting the opening goal in the 33rd minute and the team’s insurance goal in the 80th. She finished the week with 11 shots and finished the regular season with a league-leading 10 goals. Also Nominated: Sydney Torres (Montana State Billings), AJ DePinto (Seattle Pacific), Kate Cartier (Simon Fraser), Estera Levinte (Western Washington).

WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE
Nicole Anderson
(Simon Fraser, GK, 5-6, Sr., Eagle, Idaho – Bishop Kelly): Anderson posted her third and fourth shutouts of the season to help the Red Leafs claim a GNAC Championships berth. Anderson finished with four saves against eight shots in Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Saint Martin’s. She then finished with eight saves against 20 shots in Saturday’s 0-0 tie at Western Oregon. Also Nominated: Tua Sallavin (Montana State Billings), Kaitlynn Knocke (Seattle Pacific), Darien Walton (Western Oregon), Katie Watt (Western Washington).

VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE
Calley Heilborn
(Western Washington, OH, 6-1, Sr., Auburn, Wash. – Auburn Riverside): Heilborn led all GNAC players last week with averages of five kills and 4.67 digs per set as WWU kept pace in the conference title conversation. She opened the week with a double-double of 23 kills and 23 digs with two aces and four blocks in Thursday’s four-set win at Northwest Nazarene. Heilborn came back to finish with 22 kills, 19 digs, two assists and five blocks in Saturday’s five-set win at Central Washington. Heilborn also averaged one block and 5.72 points per set in the two wins. Also Nominated: Ellen Floyd (Alaska Anchorage), Kylie Thorne (Central Washington), Jahsita Fa’ali’I (Montana State Billings), Maddie Pruden (Seattle Pacific), Hanna Kolof (Simon Fraser).

(Central Washington, MB, 6-0, So., Woodinville, Wash. – Woodinville): Daoud-Hebert averaged 1.75 blocks per set in two matches and also had 2.62 kills per set and a .474 hitting percentage. She opened the week with six blocks and 11 kills with a .588 hitting percentage in Thursday’s three-set sweep of Simon Fraser. Daoud-Hebert then contributed eight blocks and 10 kills in Saturday’s five-set loss to Western Washington. Daoud-Hebert leads the GNAC and is in the top five in Division II in blocks per set.  Also Nominated: Leilani Elder (Alaska Anchorage), Kennedy Juranek (Montana State Billings), Kalissa Beltran (Simon Fraser), Calley Heilborn (Western Washington).

Max Turnquist
(Saint Martin’s, Sr., Yakima, Wash. – West Valley): Turnquist scored a pair of top-10 finishes at two tournaments in Hawaii last week. Turnquist led all GNAC golfers as he tied for sixth at the HPU Sharks Shootout, turning in a two-round score of 6-under-par 138. He closed the fall season by tying for 10th place at the Dennis Rose Invitational, carding a two-round score of 1-over-par 141. Also Nominated: Jordan Lee (Western Washington).

WOMEN’S GOLF
Emma Worgum
(Western Washington, Fr., La Conner, Wash. – La Conner): Worgum was the top GNAC golfer in both tournaments in Hawaii last week. At the HPU Sharks Shootout, Worgum tied for 16th place with a two-round score of 6-over-par 150. At the Dennis Rose Invitational, Worgum was just two strokes off the pace as she placed second with a two-round score of even-par 144. She shot a 3-under-par 69 on the opening round, tying for the third-lowest round in GNAC women’s golf history. Also Nominated: Izzy Ferguson (Simon Fraser).
