PORTLAND, Ore. – GNAC Insider returned Tuesday at 7 p.m. (PT) with the latest news around the GNAC. Among the episode’s guests were two track and field sensations and a recently promoted head football coach.

Taking over as head coach of the Azusa Pacific football team in 2020, Rudy Carlton joined the show. Carlton spent the last 10 seasons as the Cougars’ offensive coordinator while also overseeing the quarterbacks. He replaces Victor Santa Cruz, who is now the defensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii.

Carlton played quarterback for Azusa Pacific from 2002 to 2007. He played two seasons in the Arena Football League II before joining the Cougars’ coaching staff full time in 2009. During his time as an assistant, the Cougars claimed four GNAC football titles and made two trips to the NCAA playoffs.

Gearing up for the upcoming GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nampa, Idaho, Simon Fraser senior Addy Townsend also joined the show. Townsend was named the GNAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this indoor season. She has the No. 2 time in Division II in the 800 meters at 2:07.74, which automatically qualifies for nationals, and has won the event at the GNAC Indoor Championships in three out of the last four years. Townsend has also automatically qualified for nationals in the mile at 4:40.40.

Also heading to Nampa and wrapping up the show was Concordia junior Jakob Chamberlin. Chamberlin provisionally qualified for nationals in the shot put at the UW Preview on Jan. 18 with a mark of 55 feet, 0.75 inches. He finished third in the shot put at the 2018 GNAC Indoor Championships while also placing first in the discus and second in the hammer throw at the 2018 GNAC Outdoor Championships before redshirting last year.
