PORTLAND, Ore. – GNAC Insider returned Tuesday at 7 p.m. (PT) to highlight the conference’s latest news. Among the episode’s guests were the head coaches of two of the GNAC’s top programs as well as a golfer who capped off a stellar fall season with a bang.

In his 33rd year as head coach of the Western Washington cross country and track and field programs, Pee Wee Halsell joined the show. The Vikings traveled in packs to sweep the team titles at the GNAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Amend Park in Billings, Montana.

The Western Washington women won their first team title with 53 points, edging out defending champion Alaska Anchorage by seven points. The men cruised to their first title in 10 years with 38 points, 38 points ahead of second-place Simon Fraser.

Fresh off an individual victory at the Division II West Region Preview, Simon Fraser women’s golf’s Emily Leung joined the show. Leung won the tournament with a final score of 2-under-par 142 to lead the Clan to a tie for third place. In doing so, she tied a GNAC women’s golf single-round record with her first-round score of 3-under-par 69.

In his eighth season as head coach of the Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball program, Ryan McCarthy also joined the show. McCarthy will look to lead the Seawolves back to the GNAC Championships after winning their fifth straight regular-season title in 2018-19. The Seawolves will be tested early this season as they head to Durham, North Carolina, to take on Division I Duke on Sunday, Nov. 3.
