PORTLAND, Ore. – As all fall sports gear up for a long season of conference matchups, GNAC Insider geared up for its weekly show tonight at 7 p.m., Pacific, hosted by Rob Lowery. This week’s guests were Central Washington wide receiver Christian Gasca, Simon Fraser men’s soccer midfielder and reigning GNAC Offensive Player of the Year, Adam Jones, and Concordia’s Interim Director of Athletics Lauren Eads.
Gasca joined the show fresh off Central Washington’s last-second 17-16 victory against then No. 22 Azusa Pacific over the weekend. The senior wide receiver has compiled 117 receiving yards this season on 11 receptions and ranks second on the team in catches. Gasca has also rushed for 49 yards this season on four attempts. The No. 20 Wildcats have started the season 3-0 and are tied for first with Humboldt State at 2-0 in conference play.
Leading a Simon Fraser team to a 4-0 start entering conference play this week, midfielder Adam Jones joined the show to talk about his stellar 2016 season and what to expect from the Clan this year. In 2016, Jones was named the GNAC Player of the Year, Division II Conference Commissioners Association West Region Player of the Year and was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-West Region First Team. This season, Jones is second on the team with six points, tallying two goals and two assists through four non-conference matches. Simon Fraser opens conference play at Seattle Pacific this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Concluding the show was Concordia’s recently-appointed interim director of athletics, Lauren Eads. Eads was hired by the Cavaliers in June of 2016 as the associate athletic director of business management. Just one year later, she filled the institution’s vacancy as interim director of athletics in July 2017. Prior to her move to the Pacific Northwest, Eads most recently worked at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., as the associate athletics director and senior woman administrator. Eads will speak about Concordia’s transition to the NCAA as well as the GNAC championships events the Cavaliers will host during the fall and spring seasons.
