PORTLAND, Ore. – Episode 93 of GNAC Insider aired Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Pacific time. The episode featured Northwest Nazarene sprinter Taylor Deskins, Concordia thrower Josh Koch and Central Washington baseball pitcher CJ Gettman.

Deskins is a junior sprinter for the Northwest Nazarene track and field team. She transferred to NNU after her frehsman season from Corban in Salem, Ore. Last week at the Idaho/Utah Border Clash, Deskins became the first Crusader woman ever to break the 12-second barrier in the 100-meters, finishing in a time of 11.95 seconds. Her time broke her own school record in the meet, was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and ranks 29th in the nation. Deskins also placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in the Crusaders’ last meet before GNAC Outdoor Championships on May 13 and 14. Deskins spoke about breaking the 12 second mark, her other goals this season and competing at the GNAC Championships in two weekends.

Koch is sophomore thrower for the Concordia track and field team. He was named the GNAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after improving upon his GNAC leading mark in the shot put. At the Oregon Relays, Koch hit a mark of 58-4 (17.8m) to place second and improve his No. 2 ranking in GNAC history. He leads the GNAC this season in the shot put and is ranked No. 2 in the nation. Koch and the Cavaliers next compete at the Oregon Twilight in Eugene, Ore. before the GNAC Outdoor Championships. Koch was the individual champion at the GNAC Indoor Championships earlier this season. Koch spoke about how he became a thrower, hitting the second highest mark in GNAC history in the shot put and competing at the GNAC Championships.

Gettman is a junior relief pitcher for the Central Washington baseball team. This season, he leads the GNAC with eight saves and the team with 18 appearances as the Wildcats’ closer. In 20 innings pitched, he has struck out 32 batters and has a 4.05 earned run average against. Central Washington is coming off its best series of the season, sweeping one of the top GNAC teams in Northwest Nazarene. The four wins jumped the Wildcats from third to first place with one week left in the regular season. This week, they face Western Oregon who sits just one game back of the Wildcats with four games remaining. Gettman spoke about the difference between being a starting pitcher and a reliever, closing for the Wildcats and about the different pitches he uses.
