PORTLAND, Ore.  – After a second place finish in their first competition of the spring, the Simon Fraser men’s golf team has been selected the GNAC’s Red Lion Team of the Week.

The Clan competed at the NDNU Argonaut Invitational on Mar. 14 and 15 and placed second out of 18 teams in a competitive tournament. Simon Fraser shot 23-over par 887 as a team, 10 strokes back of first place Chico State. Junior Kevin Vigna led the team, tying for second place individually with a three-round score of even par 216. Vigna is the reigning GNAC Men’s Golfer of the Year after averaging a score of 71.8 per round in 2014-15.

Simon Fraser had three top-20 finishers, with sophomore Chris Crisologo taking 11th place and sophomore Michael Caan placing 16th. Crisologo shot five-over par 221 while Caan shot 7-over par 223. Sophomore Marcus Brown tied for 74th place and sophomore Jordan Hutchings tied for 85th.

The Clan led three total GNAC teams competing in the tournament. Saint Martin’s tied for sixth with a score of 897 and Northwest Nazarene placed 14th at 927.

The tournament was the first of the spring season for the Clan, who last competed on Oct. 20 at the Chico State Invitational. This season, they have placed no lower than fourth, with three second place finishes. Crisologo leads the team individually with an average round score of 71.4. Vigna averages 73.8 in 12 rounds this season and senior Bret Thompson averages 73.9.

The Clan compete at the CBU Invitational in Corona, Calif. on Mar. 21 and 22 for their second spring tournament. They take part in the Western New Mexico Invitational on Apr. 4 and 5 for their final tournament before the GNAC Championships on Apr. 18 and 19.
