PORTLAND, Ore. – Guests for episode 61 of GNAC Insider included Montana State Billings baseball coach Rob Bishop, the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course head professional Andy Mackimmie and Central Washington distance runner Megan Rogers.
Bishop is in his fifth season as the MSUB baseball coach. Bishop, who won his 500th-career game this season, has won 94 games directing the Yellowjackets while coaching the first All-American in MSUB baseball history in second baseman Brody Miller. Miller was selected as the GNAC Player of the Week this week after the Yellowjackets won three-of-four from Central Washington, moving within striking distance of first-place Western Oregon. The Yellowjackets will host the Wolves in a five-game series this weekend where the winner claims first-place in the conference standings and earns the inside bid to hosting the 2015 GNAC Baseball Championships May 7-8. Bishop discussed his team’s play as of late and his passion for coaching.
Mackimmie is the head golf professional at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course which will host the 2015 GNAC Golf Championships April 20-21. The men’s and women’s tournament will feature 25 golfers from five different GNAC schools. The course, located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, encompasses 200 acres on the edge Lake Coeur d’Alene and features one of the most unique features in all of golf, a floating green on the 14th hole. Mackimmie talked about the challenges the course entails and gave a few tips to golfers that are playing the course.
Rogers is in her junior year at Central Washington. Rogers helped the Wildcats cross country team earn a berth into the NCAA National Championships, their first since 2000, with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA West Regionals. Fast-forward to the spring where the distance runner competes in the 1,500-meters, the 5,000-meters and the 10,000-meters. At the Spokane Community Colleges WAR VII Saturday, Rogers ran to a first-place finish in a time of 36:37.38. Her time not only broke the school record, but preliminarily qualified her for nationals as well. Rogers commented on her race and about running in the wind at her home track.
