PORTLAND, Ore. – Dom Williams of Central Washington and Alli Madison of Alaska Anchorage have been selected GNAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the Week of Dec. 1-7.
Williams and Madison led their respective teams to two victories each as the conference season tipped off last weekend.
Following is a recap of their accomplishments and a listing on honorable mention selections:
Men’s Basketball - Dom Williams, Central Washington (G, 5-11, Sr., Tacoma, WA – Curtis & Tacoma CC) scored 50 points and also had 10 assists and just one turnover in wins over Montana State Billings and defending GNAC champion Seattle Pacific. He had a career-high 31 points and five assists in a 88-79 win over Montana State Billings Thursday, connecting on 11 of 20 shots, including 5-of-7 three-pointers. Williams then added 19 points and five assists in a 73-67 victory against Seattle Pacific Saturday, converting on 4-of-7 three-point shots. The win snapped a four-game CWU losing streak to the Falcons. For the week, Williams made 18-of-37 shots (48.6 percent), including 9-of-14 three-pointers. He also converted on 5-of-6 foul shots.
Honorable Mention – Kevin Rima, Northwest Nazarene (F, 6-7, Sr., Fairbanks, AK); Trey Ingram, Saint Martin’s (G, 6-1, Fr., Scottsdale, AZ); Matt Borton, Seattle Pacific (G, 6-5, Sr., Yakima, WA – West Valley); Sango Niang, Simon Fraser (G, 6-0, Sr., Paris France); Andy Avgi, Western Oregon (F, 6-6, Jr., Woodburn, OR); Anye Turner, Western Washington (F, 6-7, Sr., Olympia, WA – Black Hills).
Women’s Basketball – Alli Madison, Alaska Anchorage (G, 5-8, Sr., Seattle, WA - Kennedy) scored 28 points in wins over defending GNAC regular-season champion Montana State Billings and previously unbeaten Seattle Pacific. Madison had 14 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists in a 76-60 victory against the Yellowjackets. She then led the Seawolves to a 85-58 win over Seattle Pacific scoring 14 more points. The margin of victory was UAA’s largest ever against SPU and largest ever against a nationally-ranked team.
