AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific Athletic Director Gary Pine has been announced as the chair of the NCAA Division II Football Committee for the 2020 season. Pine’s appointment comes prior to his fourth year on the Committee.

"I am honored to assume this role and work with such outstanding and respected NCAA Division II administrators,” said Pine, “The coming year will be like none before for college football and our committee will have some challenging landscape to navigate as we seek to provide the best college football experience for the 17,000 young men who play Division II football."

The Division II Football Committee consists of eight members, two from each of the four Super Regions, who are charged with the selection of the playoff field and the overall operation of the Division II Football Championships. As the chair of the Committee, Pine will conduct the national ranking calls, coordinate the final field selection and ensure the complete operation of the Championship.

Pine, who represents the Great Northwest Athletic Conference on the committee, will continue to serve on the Super Region 4 Regional Advisory Committee while adding his national chair duties.

Pine, who is entering his 10th year as the athletic director at Azusa Pacific and his 35th year with Azusa Pacific athletics, brings a wealth of administrative experience to the position. Outside of his responsibilities at Azusa Pacific, he has served on the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee, PacWest Advisory Committee for track & field, and he has been the chair of the PacWest Officiating Committee.
