Colbert, Mitchell Selected To NFF Hampshire Honor Society

PORTLAND, Ore. – Honoring the best efforts on both the field of play and in the classroom, senior linebackers Na’im Colbert of Azusa Pacific and Taylor Mitchell of Humboldt State have been selected by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame to their presitigous Hampshire Honor Society.

The duo is among 882 players selected to the society from 280 schools at all levels of collegiate football, including 81 from NCAA Division II. To be eligible for membership, nominated student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better, be a starter or significant contributor to their team in one’s last year of eligiblity and must be meeting all NCAA or NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Colbert and Mitchell are the fifth and sixth GNAC student-athletes named to the Hampshire Honor Society since its inception in 2007.

Colbert is the sixth player from Azusa Pacific named to the Hampshire Honor Society, joining Cory Beach (2011), Kavin Davis (2015), Nick Grunsky (2014), Brent Willard (2010) and Jay York (2011). A semifinalist for the NFF’s William V. Campbell Trophy, Colbert recorded 22 tackles while appearing in all 10 games in 2015. Colbert posted a 3.50 cumulative grade point average as a finance major and economics minor.

Mitchell, Humboldt State’s first-ever Hampshire Honor Society honoree, was a Second Team All-GNAC selection and played a big part on defense to lead the Lumberjacks to the GNAC championship and the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Mitchell registered 68 tackles (33 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss and three tackles. A CoSIDA Academic All-Super Region 3 Team selection this year, Mitchell was also a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy while compiling a 3.90 cumulative grade point average as a business administration major.
