Quarterback Mike Proulx threw for 366 yards to lead Humboldt State to an impressive 29-3 win over Colorado Mesa Thursday at Grand Junction, Colo.

Meanwhile at Allendale, Mich., nationally fourth-ranked Grand Valley built a 23-0 halftime lead in cruising to a 44-20 win over Western Oregon before a crowd of 15,004.

Proulx completed 21 of 35 passes, including touchdown passes of seven yards to Tommy Darcey and 24 yards to Dirk Dallas.

HSU also scored on a three-yard run by Lyndon Rowells and on field goals of 28, 24 and 23 yards by Brian Blumberg. Rowells' run capped a 99-yard, eight-play drive which featured a 57-yard Proulx pass to Patrick Gondkoff.

Caleb Pavy kicked a 36-yard field goal in the first quarter to account for Mesa's only points.

Humboldt State finished the contest with 528 yards in total offense, including 92 rushing yards on 25 carries by Rowells and 158 yards on five receptions by Gondkoff.

Defensively, the 'Jacks limited Mesa to 245 yards and just 12 first downs. Defensive lineman Sean McDonald led the way with 11 tackles, including three for tackles of losses of eight yards. He also forced a fumble.

Humboldt also got 10 tackles from DB Jeremiah Maluia and eight from LB Casey Sarvinski.

Quarterback Heath Parling tossed two of his three touchdown passes and Israel Woolfrock scored on a blocked punt in the first half to lead Grand Valley to its win. For the game, Parling completed 15 of 27 passes for 205 yards.

WOU got on the board twice in the third quarter on field goals by Kelly Morgan from 32 and 31 yards, but still trailed 37-6 at the end of the period.

The Wolves got two touchdowns - one from its offense and one from its defense - in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Evan Mozzochi tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Royce Spencer with 6:32 remaining in the contest. De'Andre Spencer then scored on a 31-yard interception return with 2:37 left.

Mozzochi ended up completing 16 of 33 passes for 165 yards. WOU, however, added just 82 yards on the ground, 62 by Kenneth Haynes and was outgained 397-247.
