LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's Athletic Director Bob Grisham announced Wednesday Saints' assistant coach Matt Lowe will be the interim Cross Country head coach for the 2021-22 season.

"Moving Matt into this position helps us make a transition in head coaches as Matt has familiarity with the program and our student-athletes," said Grisham. "With his experience and energy, we are looking forward to establishing a program that has his vision for it."

Lowe joined the Saints' coaching staff in 2019, assisting the cross-country program in the fall along with working with throws and multi-event athletes during the track and field season. During his time at Saint Martin's, Lowe has helped the Saints earn two GNAC All-Conference finishes, including one second-place finish and a third-place finish.

Along with coaching at Saint Martin's, Lowe brings a vast amount of coaching experience with him to Lacey. Lowe was the head cross country coach for Grays Harbor Community College, along with being an assistant coach at Division II Kentucky Wesleyan for two-and-a-half years. He also spent time at the high school level, coaching at Shelton (Wash.) High School.

During his time at Kentucky Wesleyan, the program established itself as one of the top Division-II programs in the country with six Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Year, 40 conference champions, and runner-ups and 52 all-conference selections.

Lowe attended Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky where he was selected to the school's Hall of Fame as a two-time All-American. He was the 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Year and set 10 school records as a distance runner.
