NEW ORLEANS – Cross country teams from six GNAC institutions and 19 student-athletes are being honored for academic achievement in awards presented today by the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Central Washington, Montana State Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Western Oregon and Western Washington had both its men’s and women’s programs recognized as All-Academic Teams while the Simon Fraser women’s program was also honored. All-Academic Teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet.
The 19 student-athletes were recognized for having a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and finishing in the top 30 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Western Washington led the GNAC with a total of six individual honorees, with a conference-high five men’s award winners. Alaska led the women’s programs with three honorees.
A total of 98 men’s programs and 111 women’s programs at the Division II level were recognized as All-Academic Teams. A total of 275 men’s student-athletes from 98 different institutions were named All-Academic athletes as were 357 women’s student-athletes from 104 different institutions.
