DALLAS, Texas – After leading Northwest Nazarene to a four-game conference sweep at Saint Martin’s and earning GNAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, senior third baseman Shawn Grandmont was also named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II West Region Player of the Week on Monday.

Grandmont led the Nighthawks at the plate with a .562 batting average, going 9 for 16 with five runs, 10 RBI, a double, a triple, two home runs and a walk. He finished the series with a .611 on-base percentage, a 1.125 slugging percentage and a pair of stolen bases.

In Friday’s opener, Grandmont went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI single in the first inning. He went 1 for 4 in the nightcap with a three-run home run that accounted for all of the scoring in a 3-0 win.

Grandmont went off again on Saturday, going 3 for 5 in the opener with two runs, an RBI single in the third and a three-run bomb in the seventh. He closed the series by going 3 for 3 with an RBI single and an RBI triple.

A staple in the middle of the Nighthawks’ lineup, Grandmont leads the GNAC with three triples, 15 stolen bases and 33 RBI, which rank No. 6 in Division II. He is third in the conference with 31 hits, 26 runs and six home runs. Grandmont enters the week with a .419 batting average, .543 on-base percentage and .797 slugging percentage.

With a 17-3 overall record (11-1 GNAC), Northwest Nazarene stays put at No. 2 in the latest NCBWA Division II West Region Rankings behind Azusa Pacific.
