BILLINGS, Mont. – Stephen Cavallo announced that he will not be returning as the head women's soccer coach at Montana State University Billings for the 2023 season.

Cavallo departs to accept an assistant coaching position with the women’s soccer program at University of Nevada.

“It is with a heavy heart that I step away from MSUB,” said Cavallo. “I have been here for nine years and will be forever indebted to this university and this community for all opportunities it has given me. This institution is very unique and special, and it was an honor representing it all of these years. I will miss this team and our coaching staff immensely. I have so much love for them and am so excited to continue to watch them grow in the years to come. Thank you MSUB and thank you to the Billings community for everything you have done for me. You will always be a part of me.”

Cavallo joined the program in 2014, where he began serving as an assistant coach. After three years, Cavallo was promoted to head coach on December 30, 2016. In six seasons as head coach, Cavallo had a 27-59-12 record for the Yellowjackets, coaching the third most games in school history. His MSUB teams had 18 players selected for all-GNAC honors while he was head coach. Off the pitch, his teams collected 78 academic All-GNAC selections and six College Sports Communicatorss Academic All-District honors during his tenure.

“It’s bittersweet as Stephen did a very good job leading our women’s soccer program and was the consummate professional.” said MSUB Director of Athletics Michael Bazemore. “However, we are extremely happy and excited for him as he embarks on his next opportunity. It’s a testament to his genuine passion for student-athletes and the work he has completed to put himself in this position. We would like to thank Stephen for his leadership and his contribution to our athletic department, and wish him well at Nevada.”
