PORTLAND, Ore. – In the final non-conference weekend of the season, the Central Washington women’s basketball team picked up two road wins in California. With a 62-52 victory over Cal State L.A. on Wednesday and a 63-58 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, the Wildcats were named the GNAC’s Red Lion Team of the Week.

Central Washington won its second and third straight games and improved its record to 8-2 overall. Against Cal State L.A., the Wildcats used a 21-8 run in the third quarter to pull away for the victory. Jasmin Edwards played a game-high 39 minutes, leading the team with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Wildcats shot 51.2 percent from the field (21-41) and held the Golden Eagles to 38.3 percent shooting (18-47).

The Wildcats opened the second half once again with a dominant third quarter against Cal Poly Pomona, outscoring the Broncos 20-9. Jasmine Parker had a double-double, scoring 12 points while pulling down 12 rebounds, adding four blocks, three steals and three assists. Alexis Berrysmith put up 14 points with six rebounds and Mandy Steward came off the bench to add 14 points, four steals and three rebounds.

The Wildcats overcame a tough start against the Broncos, trailing 14-2 through the first four minutes of the game. Steward scored the team’s final five points, shooting 5 of 6 from the free throw line to hold off the Broncos’ late rally.

Central Washington returns to action on New Year’s Eve, hosting Seattle Pacific. The Wildcats then welcome Saint Martin’s on Sat., Jan. 2. They enter conference play with a 1-1 record in the GNAC and the second best overall record.
