113 Athletes Named To GNAC Track & Field Academic Team

PORTLAND, Ore. - A total of  113 student-athletes – 66 women and 47 men - have been named to the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track & Field All-Academic team.

Joe Berger of Saint Martin’s has the top GPA among the honorees with a perfect 4.00 GPA.  Helen Crofts of Simon Fraser and Laura Pridgen of Northwest Nazarene have the best GPAs on the women’s team. 

Crofts has a 4.14 GPA in the Canadian system that awards 4.33 points for an A+.  Pridgen has a 3.98 GPA in the American system.

Alfred Kangogo and Miriam Kipng’eno of Alaska Anchorage earned academic honors for the fourth time.  Additionally six men and 10 women won their third academic award.

The three-time male winners include Micah Chelimo of Alaska Anchorage, Lewis Meyers of Central Washington, Adam Prevost and Tyson Vanderby of Montana State Billings, AJ Baker of Seattle Pacific and Tim Clendaniel of Western Washington.

Women earning their third academic award include Ruth Keino and Katie Krehlik of Alaska Anchorage; Pridgen, Melissa Grammer, Alicia Hedrick and Shanna Rippy, all of Northwest Nazarene; Samantha Hull and Teilissa Tua of Saint Martin’s; Ali Worthen and Katy Gross of Seattle Pacific; and Valle Ledtke and Mary Rogers of Western Washington.

Western Washington placed the most athletes on the academic team with 24 including 10 men and 14 women.  Northwest Nazarene earned 18 academic slots (7 men, 11 women), while Montana State Billings had 16 (5 men, 11 women) and Alaska Anchorage had 15 (8 men, 7 women).
