PORTLAND, Ore. – A sweep of first-place Simon Fraser last weekend has earned Saint Martin’s softball team GNAC Team of the Week honors.

SMU won three of four games during the week to pull to within one-half game of the Clan at the midway point of the conference season. SFU is 8-3 in conference play, while the SMU (17-9 overall) and Western Oregon are tied for second with 8-4 records.

The Saints split two games last week with Western Washington, losing 7-6 before winning 8-0.  SMU then swept Simon Fraser by scores of 9-0 and 4-1.

The Saints outhit their opponents .395 to .174 on the week as shortstop/pitcher Sam Munger led the way batting .667 (8 of 12). 

Six different players had five or more hits during the week.  Megan Miller and Joslyn Eugenio had six each, while Aubree Pocklington, Lacey McGladrey and Madi Davis had five each.

Munger and Taylor Bakos combined to post a 0.88 earned run average.  Bakos, who was selected the Red Lion GNAC Pitcher of the Week, posted a 2-0 record and had a 0.58 ERA, while Munger had a 1-1 record and a 1.17 ERA.

Saint Martin’s steps away from conference action this week hosting Concordia and Corban in non-conference doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
