TROPHY IN HAND BUT PLENTY FOR PLAY FOR: Nothing is truly for certain in GNAC volleyball but Western Washington made sure there was no doubt in claiming its fourth consecutive conference title.
The Vikings won three matches last week to secure the trophy. They put additional breathing room in the standings with a four-set win over

Alaska Anchorage on Monday and clinched the championship and the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championships on Thursday with a three-set sweep at Montana State Billings.

Coupled with a four-set win at Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Western Washington has now won 15 straight matches. The team’s last loss came to Central Washington on September 23. In that stretch, the Vikings have dropped a total of nine sets.

While the conference title is in hand, there is still plenty to play for in the final week as three other GNAC teams have appeared in the NCAA West Region Rankings, which will ultimately determine postseason qualification.

In last week’s rankings, Western Washington sat at No. 2 while Simon Fraser was at No. 3. Simon Fraser may slip some in the new poll, which will be released on Wednesday, after Saturday’s four-set loss to Montana State Billings.

Central Washington was ranked No. 6 and stands to either stay at that spot or move up after wins over Saint Martin’s on Thursday and Western Oregon on Saturday. Alaska Anchorage was ranked No. 8. Where the Seawolves sit will be hard to figure after losses to Western Washington on Monday and Alaska on Saturday.

The top eight teams in each region earn selection to the NCAA Championships. The field will be announced in a selection show that will air on NCAA.com on Monday, November 22 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific).
