Third Time’s A Charm: Saints Enjoy Another Day At Home

DUPONT, Wash. – Saint Martin’s is playing at The Home Course for the third time this season and it shows.

The Saints are tied for second place with CSU-Pueblo with a score of 9-over-par 585 after two rounds of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional in DuPont, Washington. They turned in a team score of 300 on Friday to stay within striking distance of Oklahoma Christian, which sits in first place at 7-over-par 583.

Senior Tyler Fitchett and junior Max Turnquist continue to lead the Saints in the tournament. They finished the second round in a four-way tie for eighth place with scores of even-par 144. Fitchett shot 3-over-par 75 in the round while Turnquist shot 1-over-par 73. Fitchett’s day included three birdies.

Western Washington and Montana State Billings are tied for sixth place at 592. The Vikings turned in a score of 301 in the second round after finishing the opening round at 291. After finishing the opening round in first place, the Yellowjackets turned in a score of 308 in the second round to fall on the leaderboard as well.

Freshman Drew Halili has been the Vikings’ most consistent player in the postseason. He shot 1-over-par 73 in the second round after opening the tournament at even-par 72 on Thursday. Halili started his round with five straight holes of par or better, finishing with three birdies on the day to come into a three-way tie for 12th place with a score of 1-over-par 145.

Yellowjackets’ senior Garrett Woodin is also tied for eighth place at even-par 144. He carded 4-over-par 76 after finishing the first round atop the leaderboard at 4-under-par 68, which was his best round of the season. Junior Riley Kaercher helped to keep the Jackets in position as he is in a four-way tie for 17th place at 3-over-par 147.

Northwest Nazarene sits in 15th place after two rounds with a score of 605 after turning in a team score of 306 on Friday. Sophomore Grayson Giboney leads the Nighthawks in a nine-way tie for 21st place at 4-over-par 148.

Andrew NI of CSU-Pueblo sits in first place after two rounds with a two-stroke lead at 4-under-par 140. He shot 2-under-par 70 in both rounds.

Third-round action begins on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. (PT). The top four teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships on May 17-21 at the Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
