PORTLAND, Ore. – With a solid stroke average on the links and a perfect grade point average in the classroom, Montana State Billings junior Tierney Messmer leads the 18 student-athletes named to the 2020-21 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.
Messmer has a 4.00 GPA as a health administration major and finished the season as the Yellowjackets’ No. 1 player with an 82 stroke average. She was MSUB’s top player at the GNAC Championships, placing 11th. Messmer’s season was highlighted by a third-place finish at the Hardrocker Classic on April 12 and 13, where she carded a two-round score of 168.
Saint Martin’s sophomore Kathryn Crimp, the GNAC Championships medalist, is the other 4.00 performer on the All-Academic Team. One of a conference-leading six honorees for the Saints, Crimp is a mathematics and secondary education major.
Messmer is among six student-athletes on the team with a GPA of 3.80 or greater and one of 10 repeat selections to the team. There are three three-time selections to the team in Montana State Billings senior Sydney Rochford, Northwest Nazarene senior Ragan McGilvery and Simon Fraser junior Estee Leung.
To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
Thanks to eligibility waivers provided by the NCAA due to the cancellation of the 2020 season, players who continue to hold freshman eligibility but are in their second season of competition at the nominating institution were eligible for selection to the GNAC All-Academic Team.
