BURNABY, B.C. — Recently graduated Simon Fraser point guard Michael Provenzano has signed a pro contract to play in the Liga Española de Baloncesto (LEB) for Ciudad Autonoma de Melilla Enrique Soler in Melilla, Spain.

Provenzano, the GNAC all-time leader in conference games started (80) and conference minutes played (2,575) signs on the heels of a successful senior season in which he averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 assists and 31 minutes per game.

"I am extremely excited and proud for Michael signing his professional contract today at his home in London, Ontario," said Simon Fraser head coach Steve Hanson. "With all that life has tossed at him, he deserves this opportunity and his new club will be very happy to get the competitor he is each and every day and the person he is in the community.  Our fans will be able to follow Michael's journey overseas and continue to follow one of the most passionate SFU players in our program's history."

Provenzano, whose goal after graduating from Simon Fraser was to continue his basketball career overseas, is excited about the new opportunity.

"I feel pure gratitude and joy," Provezano said. "The last few months have been filled with uncertainty. It's tough to get up and put work in every day knowing things might not work out in your favor. It's deeply satisfying knowing that the hard work hasn't been for nothing. I'm blessed to get an opportunity to play and show what I can do".
