BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University women's volleyball head coach Gina Schmidt has been named head coach of Canada's junior women's national team, one of several coaching appointments made by Volleyball Canada.

"We are very excited to put together an excellent group of coaches with a wide range of experience in both athlete development and coaching experience at the national level," said Dawna Sales, Volleyball Canada program manager. "Having consistency, regional representation and a variety of experiences in our coaching staff from year to year to ensure the program is continuing to grow and improve. The coaching staff is committed to providing a training and development plan to ensure our athletes are moving toward international success."

The Team Canada Junior Women's Program provides an environment of excellence in Canada to expose identified athletes to international level of education, training and competition early in their careers.

Schmidt was the lead coach with Canada's Senior Women's B team last summer in addition to leading the Clan to a 15-13 overall record and the program's fourth straight winning season.  Schmidt will be assisted on the junior national team by Monette Boudreau-Carroll and Dan Huzar.

The junior women's team will feature 28 athletes (two teams) born in 2000 or later. Athletes will train starting in mid-July and travel to Tulsa, OK for the USA Volleyball High-Performance Championships, July 24-28, 2018.
