PORTLAND, Ore. – One of the key players for Northwest Nazarene this season and a solid performer in the classroom as well, Nighthawks sophomore Cole Evarts leads the 22 student-athletes named to the 2020-21 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.

One of eight NNU players named to the squad, Evarts owns a 3.90 GPA as a financial economics major. Evarts has played in 12 rounds this season with a 77.4 stroke average. Evarts posted a pair of top-10 finishes this season, tying for seventh at the LC State Warrior Spring Invitational on March 15 and 16 and tying for eighth at the GNAC Championships, where he carded a three-round score of 223.

Simon Fraser junior Ryan Stolys joined Evarts as the two honorees with a 3.90 GPA or better. Stolys has a 3.93 GPA as an engineering science major. The duo is among five student-athletes on the team with a 3.70 GPA or better.

Of the 22 selections to the All-Academic Team, 10 are repeat selections and four are three-time selections. The three-time selections include Montana State Billings junior Riley Kaercher, Northwest Nazarene seniors Andrew Cortez and Tyler Joplin and Saint Martin’s senior Brooks McKinney.

To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.

Thanks to eligibility waivers provided by the NCAA due to the cancellation of the 2020 season, players who continue to hold freshman eligibility but are in their second season of competition at the nominating institution were eligible for selection to the GNAC All-Academic Team.
