BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Former Western Washington University basketball player Daulton Hommes has signed a two-way contract to play for the New Orleans Pelicans in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Pelicans officially announced the news on Thursday (August 19) while Hommes was playing in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Hommes, a native of Lynden and product of Lynden Christian, spent three years in the WWU program from 2015-18. After a redshirt season in 2015-16, Hommes started all 60 games for the Vikings over the next two seasons (2016-17 & 2017-18). The 6-foot-8 forward/guard averaged 15.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 55.5 percent from the field (316-for-569). He was 100-for-217 (.461) from 3-point range and an 86 percent free-throw shooter (178-for-207).

His two-year WWU career was highlighted by winning the 2016-17 Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, earning a trip to the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships. The Vikings combined to go 46-14 (.767) in his two seasons on the court. Hommes was a two-time All-GNAC selection, including unanimous first-team honors as a sophomore in 2017-18 when he averaged 18.1 points and six rebounds per game. He was also a Second Team All-West Region selection by the NABC and D2CCA in 2017-18.

Hommes completed his collegiate career at Point Loma Nazarene, earning NCAA Division II Player of the Year honors in 2018-19 averaging 21.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Sea Lions.

Following the completion of his collegiate career, Hommes played one season for the Austin Spurs in 2019-20, where he averaged 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 36 games. Hommes made the jump to Europe last season, starring for Vanoli Cremona in the top division in Italy, averaging 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per outing in 28 games.

WHAT IS AN NBA TWO-WAY CONTRACT
NBA teams may have up to two players under NBA Two-Way Contracts who will spend the bulk of the season in the NBA G League and not more than 45 days with their NBA team. Two-way players are paid a corresponding daily amount based on the number of days they play in each league. The New Orleans G League team is the Birmingham Squadron, based out of Birmingham, Alabama.
