PORTLAND, Ore. – With the regular season winding down, Seattle Pacific’s Lizzy Daugherty picked the right time to come up with a monster personal best, leading the GNAC Athlete of the Week performances.

The sophomore earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after she posted a nearly 14-inch personal best to win the pole vault at the Linfield Open on Saturday. Her winning mark of 12 feet, 4 inches moves her into a tie for the conference lead in the event and ties her for No. 8 on the GNAC all-time list. The NCAA Championships provisional qualifying mark is tied for 47th in Division II this season.

Simon Fraser junior Alison Andrews-Paul earned her fourth Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award of the outdoor season after she improved her season-best in the 1,500 meters at Saturday’s Portland Twilight. The top collegiate finisher in the 56-athlete field, Andrews-Paul finished fourth with a time of 4:21.29 that is No. 4 in Division II this season and No. 5 on the GNAC all-time list.

Western Washington freshman Drew Weber was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after he set the Vikings’ school record in the 800 meters at the Portland Twilight. Weber placed second in a time of 1:49.81, which ranks 21st in Division II this season and No. 7 on the GNAC all-time list.

Western Oregon senior Austin Goldstein earned his third Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award of the season after he threw 193 feet, 4 inches in the javelin at the Oregon Twilight on Friday in Eugene. He placed fifth in the event and was the top non-Division I or open competitor in the event.

For the second week in a row, Western Washington’s Varsity 8+ was selected as the Women’s Rowing Crew of the Week after placing second in the Cascade Cup race at the Windermere Cup and Opening Day Regatta in Seattle. The Vikings crossed the line behind Division I Washington in a time of 6:54.456, the second-fastest finish time for a Vikings’ eight this season.

Western Oregon junior Arturo Alvarez was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week following his seventh win of the season in the Wolves’ 2-1 extra-innings win over Saint Martin’s on Thursday. Alvarez allowed one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over seven innings before yielding to Bryce Bond in the bottom of the eighth. Alvarez ends the regular season with a 7-0 record.

Central Washington junior Zach Berryman ended the season as the Baseball Player of the Week after he batted .632 in the Wildcats’ season-ending series with Montana State Billings. He went 12 for 19 in the series with six runs scored and went 6 for 6 in Friday’s opening game, which CWU won 17-12.

Zach Berryman
(Central Washington, UT, 6-0, Jr., Ephrata, Wash. – Walla Walla CC): Berryman finished the 2022 season in style, batting .632 with a .682 on-base percentage and a .684 slugging percentage as the Wildcats’ leadoff hitter. He went 12 for 19 with six runs scored, one double and an RBI. Berryman went 2 for 3 in Thursday’s opener and then went 1 for 6 with a run scored in the nightcap. Berryman opened Friday by going 6 for 6 with four runs scored and an RBI single in the opener and then went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored in the nightcap. Also Nominated: Cooper Dulich (Montana State Billings), Aaron Renaud (Saint Martin’s), Jacob Maiben (Western Oregon).

Arturo Alvarez
(Western Oregon, P, 6-4, Jr., Inglewood, Calif. – Los Angeles Harbor Coll.): Alvarez picked up his seventh win of the season in the Wolves’ 2-1 extra-innings win over Saint Martin’s on Thursday. In seven innings, Alvarez allowed one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts before yielding to Bryce Bond in the bottom of the eighth. The win helped WOU secure a share of the regular-season title. Also Nominated: Zach Conners (Central Washington), Connor Redmond (Montana State Billings), Troy McCormick (Saint Martin’s).

Members of the crew include Adele Houston (coxswain), Lindsey Froelich, Morgan MacIntyre, Clarice Ruhlin-Hicks, Maddie Bangasser, Yuki Saburi, Olivia Pells, Sarah Ernst and Paige Donner.
