Simon Fraser women’s basketball player Emma Kramer has been appointed as the GNAC’s representative to the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) through January 2024.

“I am thrilled to be representing the amazing athletes of the GNAC on the Division II National SAAC,” Kramer said. “It is truly an honor to be able to share the unique thoughts and ideas of the athletes in this conference with the rest of the NCAA. My goal is to make sure that all my fellow GNAC athletes feel well heard and represented on this committee, and I will do everything in my capability to make sure this happens.”

Kramer, a junior from Surrey, British Columbia, is a second-generation Simon Fraser athlete. Her mother, Lani, has both played and been an assistant coach for the SFU women’s basketball program. On the court, Kramer appeared in 27 games off the bench in 2019-2020, the last season that Simon Fraser competed. She averaged four points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 13.3 minutes per game with a .364 field-goal percentage.

The national Division II SAAC is made up of one student-athlete representative from each multi-sport conference, one representative for Division II independent institutions, and two at-large student-athlete representatives. Many additional student-athletes are members of SAAC at the campus level.

The functions of SAACs within the NCAA include generating a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure, soliciting student-athlete responses to proposed NCAA legislation and to have student-athletes actively participate in the administrative process of athletics programs and the NCAA.

National SAAC representatives are elected to non-renewable three-year teams; however a student-athlete may serve only up to one year after exhuasting their eligiblity.
