PORTLAND, Ore. – After flying over the Pacific and closing out the fall season with a victory, the Concordia women’s golf team was selected as the GNAC Team of the Week.

The Cavaliers competed at the Dennis Rose Invitational, hosted by Hawaii Hilo from Oct. 28-30 at the Waikoloa Beach Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The Cavs took the lead after the second day and never looked back, winning the team title with a three-round score of 886, four strokes ahead of second-place Sonoma State.

The Cavs turned in a first-round score of 304 before pulling away with a 291 in both the second and third rounds to secure the victory. It was the Cavs’ first and only team victory of the fall.

“The women’s team has been working hard this fall on consistency and managing on-course mistakes,” head coach Lindsay Aho said. “All five players contributed during the three rounds. I could not be more proud of the consistency and focus that they all had during the Invitational.”

Senior Cammie Decker paced the Cavs once again, finishing tied for first place and sharing medalist honors with Cal State Monterey Bay’s Isabel Carpenter with a score of 2-under-par 214. In doing so, Decker broke a GNAC women’s golf single-round record with a 2-under-par 68 in the second round. The win was Decker’s second of the year. She also earned medalist honors at the Concordia Invitational on Oct. 7-8 in Portland, Oregon.

“The leadership of Cammie has been a major factor in the women’s team elevating its game,” Aho said. “She has been inspiring with her success this season. They are all backing each other up and performing as a team.”

Freshman Jae Eun Park aided Decker in leading the Cavs to the team title, finishing in fifth with a score of 4-over-par 220 to close out her fall campaign. Decker and Park were the Cavs’ one-two combo throughout the fall season.

Junior Katie Bogert also impressed with a top-20 finish, finishing tied for 16th with a score of 228 while fellow junior Kendall Freeman rounded out the Cavs’ scoring players as she tied for 23rd place with a score of 230.

All six GNAC women’s golf teams have concluded their fall seasons. Concordia will be back on the links on Feb. 3-4 at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course in San Diego, California.
