PORTLAND, Ore. – Montana State Billings director of communications Evan O’Kelly has been honored for his writing and video storytelling ability with district awards in the College Sports Information Directors of America’s (CoSIDA) Fred Stabley, Sr., Writing Contest.

O’Kelly received a pair of District 7 awards in the Story With Video and Sesason Preview/Recap categories. The stories will now be considered for the contest’s national awards, which will be announced on June 5.

In the Story With Video category, O’Kelly was recgonized for “Yellowjacket Women’s Soccer Engages Community At Alum’s 4th-Grade Classroom,” which detailed a community service project by the Montana State Billings’ women’s soccer team in the classroom of 2013 team alumna Janae (Remsberg) Welch. The story is accompanied by a five-minute video that included interviews with MSUB soccer student-athletes and the athletes working with the school students.

In the Season Preview/Recap category, O’Kelly was recgonized for his recap of the 2016 MSUB baseball team, “Yellowjackets Reach New Milestone With 30 Wins, 2nd Straight Title.” The comprehsnive review included photos and pull-out boxes detailing player’s position on both MSUB and GNAC records lists.

The Fred Stabley, Sr., Writing Contest judges writing and storytelling ability among CoSIDA members regardless of the school’s NCAA or NAIA division. Entries are judged on overall writing style, correct use of English, inventiveness, written presentation and the ease with which the reader acquires the information.
