PORTLAND, Ore. – Mark McLaughlin of Central Washington and Travis Thompson of Alaska Anchorage have been selected as the co- Red Lion GNAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week for Jan. 20-26.

Earning the weekly award for women’s basketball was Erin Chambers of Simon Fraser.

Joining the three basketball standouts as Red Lion honorees are four indoor track and field athletes – Frank Krause and Angel Rodgers of Saint Martin’s and Jordan Rehfeld and Greyson Kilgore of Northwest Nazarene.

Men’s Basketball – Mark McLaughlin, Central Washington (G, 6-6, Sr., Bothell, WA – Inglemoor & Tacoma CC) and Travis Thompson, Alaska Anchorage (G, 6-1, Jr., Anchorage, AK) ... McLaughlin became the second player in GNAC history to record back-to-back 40-point games (joining Parrish West of Alaska Fairbanks who accomplished that feat in 2011) scoring 83 points.   He was efficient in producing 43 points in a 99-94 loss to Western Washington and 40 points in a 96-79 win against Simon Fraser, shooting 68.3 percent from the floor (28-of-41), including 5-of-9 three-pointers.  McLaughlin, who leads Division II in scoring averaging 28.3 points per game, also made 22-of-26 free throws, extending his streak of foul shots made to 42 before missing late in Thursday’s contest ... For the second straight week, Thompson scored 56 points in a pair of contests increasing his career total to 1,004.  He had 29 points in a 92-58 win at Western Oregon and 27 in a 79-78 victory at Saint Martin’s.   In the latter game, he also drew a charge with seven seconds left to secure the win.  Thompson, who had six rebounds, five assists and a team-high four steals, shot 59.3 percent from the floor (16-of-27), 52.6 percent from the arc (10-of-19) and 93.3 percent from the foul line (`14-of-15). Women’s Basketball – Erin Chambers, Simon Fraser (G/F, 6-1, Jr., Mission, BC – Heritage Park) led the Clan to a pair of victories scoring 64 points while shooting .629 (22-for-35) from the floor and .412 (7-for-17) from 3-point range. She also converted 13-of-14 free throws and grabbed 10 rebounds while playing all 80 minutes for the Clan last week. On Thursday, she scored 30 points and hauled in five rebounds in a two-point win over Alaska Fairbanks.  Chambers was even better in a four-point victory over Alaska Anchorage Saturday, notching 34 points, five more rebounds and three assists. Chambers maintained her spot atop the GNAC scoring leaders, boosting her average to 22.8 points per game.  Honorable MentionMegan Hingston, Northwest Nazarene (G, 5-9, Sr., Keizer, OR – McNary); Taylor Peacocke, Western Washington (G, 5-9, Fr., Kenmore, WA – Sacramento State); Dana Goularte, Western Oregon (F, 6-0, Jr., Port Orchard, WA – South Kitsap).

Men’s Track and Field: Track – Frank Krause, Saint Martin’s (Jr., Onalaska, WA) finished third in the 800 meters in a GNAC-season best time of 1:55.20 and fourth in the 400 in a time of 50.88 in a pair of meets Friday and Saturday at the University of Idaho.  His 800 time was just 1.21 seconds off the NCAA provisional national qualifying time and his 400 time  fell just .05 seconds shy of a 12-year school-record.  Field – Greyson Kilgore, Northwest Nazarene (Sr., Kuna, ID) pole vaulted a GNAC season-best 14-9, placing ninth in the Jacksons Invite at Nampa.  Honorable MentionRimar Christie, Northwest Nazarene (Jr., St. Michael, Barbados); Joey Keeton, Saint Martin’s (Jr., Yakima, WA – Eisenhower).

Women’s Track and Field:  Track – Jordan Rehfeld, Northwest Nazarene  (Sr., Nampa, ID - Columbia) placed second in the 3,000 meters in a provisional national qualifying time of 9:58.78 Friday at the Jacksons Invite.  Rehfeld’s time is the seventh fastest in GNAC history and was one of two PNQs established by the Crusaders in the meet along with a 800 meter time of 2:16.13 by Natalie Evans.  Rehfeld's time also broke the Crusader school record by more than 10 seconds.  Field -  Angel Rodgers, Saint Martin’s (Jr., Everett, WA - Everett CC), competing in her first meet for the Saints, broke the school record by nearly seven feet with a 20-pound weight throw of 47-1, earning her a seventh place finish at the Idaho Collegiate.  Honorable MentionJessica Johns, Northwest Nazarene (Jr., Petaluma, CA – Ventura CC).
