Trevor Roush and Adryan Allen rushed for 111 and 108 yards, respectively, and Western Oregon scored 33 second-half points to defeat Dixie State 40-28 Saturday before 2,112 fans at McArthur Field in Monmouth.

The win kept the Wolves (6-3, 6-1) one-half game ahead of Humboldt State (7-1, 5-1), which defeated Simon Fraser 42-10.

In a non-conference game at Canyon, Tex., West Texas A&M scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to snap a 35-35 tie and beat Central Washington  49-35.

WOU had five turnovers, including four before they overcame a 14-7 Dixie lead midway through the third quarter.

Ironically, their fourth turnover may have jump-started their comeback. Following an interception by Dixie's Nick Porrazzo at the 13-yard line, the Wolves got back-to-back sacks to earn a safety.

They then took advantage of Dixie's subsequent kickoff from the 20, to pull to within two points on a 21-yard field goal by Kelly Morgan.

Cody VonAppen ran 18 yards for a touchdown to finish off a 86-yard, nine-play drive with 15 seconds left in the third quarter to put WOU ahead 19-14.

The Wolves stretched their lead to 26-14 on a 28-yard run early in the fourth quarter before trading touchdowns the rest of the way. Roush's eight-yard TD run with 1:53 left clinched it.

With Roush and Allen each rushing for triple digit yardage, Western Oregon finished with 509 yards of total offense, including 243 rushing and 266 passing.

Starting QB Evan Mozzochi completed 10 of 24 passes for 175 yards, while backup Cory Bean was five of nine for 91 yards. Both had touchdown passes.

Freshman Stefan Cantwell had his third 400-yard total offense performance of the season for Dixie, completing 31 of 52 passes for 423 yards and three touchdowns. He lost one yard on 18 rushes.

Cantwell kept the Red Storm (1-8, 1-5) in the game with first-half touchdowns of seven and 71 yards to Joe Don Duncan and 69 yards to Darren Carter in the fourth period.

He also scored in the final period on a three-yard run pulling his team to within 33-28 with 3:54 remaining in the contest.

Both Duncan and WOU's Trevor Gates earned their fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season. Duncan had seven catches for 155 yards, while Gates had six for 109. Carter caught seven for 115 yards.

Defensive back Isaiah Buchanan led Western Oregon's defense which gave up 447 yards, but just 24 on the ground, with nine tackles, including seven solos. He broke up three passes. Linebacker King Manu had two of WOU's nine sacks. Tackle Gustave Benthin had the sack for the safety.

Defensive back Chris Spencer led Dixie with nine tackles, while DBs Brady Loveless and Daniel Moffitt had seven each. Moffitt had one of DSC's three fumble recoveries.

Humboldt State 42, Simon Fraser 10

Quarterback Mike Proulx completed 16 of 24 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns leading Humboldt State to a 42-10 home win over Simon Fraser.

The Lumberjacks built a 35-7 halftime lead scoring three touchdowns in the opening quarter and two in the second period.

Proulx scored on a three-yard run, Jamarie Sanders returned a blocked punt seven yards and Mike Campana scored on a one-yard run to give the Lumberjacks a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

Campana's score came immediately after a 46-yard pass from Proulx to Victor Spencer. That was one of his seven catches for 140 yards on the night.

A 15-yard interception return by Chris Peterson late in the first period set up a nine-yard touchdown pass by Proulx to Kevin Miles on the first play of the second quarter.

Simon Fraser then drove 83 yards in six plays scoring on a four-yard run by Greg Bowcott, but HSU answered as Dirk Dallas caught a 12-yard TD pass from Proulx to end the first-half scoring.

HSU's Lyndon Rowells, who rushed for 96 yards on 21 carries, scored the lone touchdown of the second half on a two-yard run. SFU later got a 34-yard field goal from Ian Sternau for the final points of the game.

Humboldt outgained the Clan 399 to 254 in total offense rushing for 129 yards and passing for 270. Simon Fraser had 220 of its yards on the ground including 145 on 25 carries by Bo Palmer, but was limited to 34 yards passing.

Linebacker Jona Faraimo led HSU in tackles with seven. Linebacker Connor Waggoner, who blocked the punt which led directly to Sanders' touchdown, also had an interception.

DB Kyle Smith led SFU with 10 tackles. Defensive end Justin Capicciotti had nine tackles, including two for losses of 13 yards.

West Texas A&M 49, Central Washington 35

West Texas A&M scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to snap a 35-35 tie and went on to defeat Central Washington 49-35.

The Wildcats (3-5), who led 7-0, 14-7 and 21-14 at various stages of the first half, had rallied from a 35-21 deficit late in the third quarter to tie the game on a pair of touchdown passes of 22 and 8 yards from QB Jose Mohler to Justin Helwege.

But after Helwege's second touchdown which came with 12:29 remaining, the Buffaloes needed just 105 seconds to drive 55 yards and score on a 14-yard run by Khiry Robinson.

Two minutes later West Texas (6-2), which was ranked sixth in this week's Super Regional IV poll, added the clinching touchdown on a 70-yard pass from Dustin Vaughan to Brittan Golden, completing a 97-yard, three-play, 79 second drive.

That was Golden's third touchdown catch of the half. He also scored in the third quarter on receptions of 26 and 16 yards. For the game, Golden had nine receptions for 170 yards.

West Texas outgained Central 549-438 in total offense, including 430 to 358 through the air. Vaughan had all of the Buffaloes passing yardage, completing 32 of 42. Mohler completed 31 of 53 for all of CWU's aerial yardage.

Helwege caught six for 124 yards. CWU running back Levi Taylor, who led the Wildcats in rushing with 40 yards, also had six catches for 26 yards including a nine-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.

Leon LaDeaux, who scored on a 56-yard pass from Mohler in the first quarter, also had six receptions for 101 yards.

DB Genesis Fonoimoana led CWU with 10 tackles and also had the Wildcats' lone interception. DB Matt Mosley had CWU's only other takeaway, returning a fumble eight yards for a second-quarter touchdown.
