PORTLAND, Ore. – Helping lead Montana State Billings to its second series victory in as many weeks, freshman right-hander Brooks Zimmer has been named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as its Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week.

Named the GNAC Baseball Player of the Week on Monday, Zimmer picked up three saves as the Yellowjackets secured the critical series win over Central Washington. He allowed just one hit and struck out four in two innings to win Saturday’s second game, 10-8.

Zimmer then earned saves in both of Sunday’s games, allowing a walk and striking out one in the ninth of the 5-3 victory in the opener and allowing two walks and striking out two in the 2-1 second game win.

The Billings product became just the fourth pitcher in GNAC history to tally three saves in a four-game series. The last to accomplish it was Western Oregon's Kody Stone in March of 2013.

Zimmer was selected as the West Region Pitcher of the Week over Chico State sophomore Kenton Carruthers and Academy of Art senior Gonzo Rios.

Montana State Billings will return to the diamond on Saturday for a four-game series at Saint Martin's. The Yellowjackets currently sit in second place in the GNAC standings.
