Two recent high school graduates have signed Institutional Letters of Intent and will continue their soccer careers at Central Washington.
Joining the Wildcats for the 2011 season will be Savanna Moorehouse from Bonney Lake, Wash., and Amanda White from Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, Wash.
Moorehouse , who plays both forward and midfield, starred at Bonney Lake High School, where she was a three-sport standout for the Panthers. In soccer, she was the offensive Most Valuable Player of the South Puget Sound League, adding first-team all-league and All-State honors as a senior. She earned a total of three first-team all-SPSL honors in her four-year varsity career.
“We are excited to add Savanna to our team,” CWU coach Michael Farrand said. “She excelled as a three-sport athlete at Bonney Lake, has been her team's goal scoring leader throughout her career, and helped take them to the state playoffs. We are very thrilled to have her come and be a part of Wildcat soccer, and we look forward to having her compete on the field right away.”
Moorehouse proved to be a prolific goal-scorer during her soccer career with the Panthers, as she totaled 42 goals and 11 assists over her final two seasons. In basketball, where she was a second-team all-SPSL selection in her only varsity season, she set single-season school records for total rebounds and rebounds per game.
White, a goalkeeper, posted four shutouts and earned first-team all-South Puget Sound League 4A honors during her only varsity soccer season with the Bears. She played in the Tahoma program all four years of her career, and also competed in club soccer with Dos FC '92 for the past three years.
“We have added to our goalkeeping depth with the addition of Amanda,” Farrand said. “I have enjoyed watching her develop as a player, and we are looking forward to her being able to come in and compete during her time with the Wildcats. Amanda has a tremendous work rate, huge leadership skills in the goal area, and we're excited to have her.”
While at Tahoma, White was a prep teammate of current CWU defender Tarah Duty, who appeared in 15 games and started five for the Wildcats as a freshman last fall.

Eight Prep Players Sign With Central Washington (2/2/11)
Eight high school seniors have signed letters of intent to play continue their soccer careers at Central Washington University.
Joining the 2011 Wildcat women's soccer team are Ashley Butcher (Bothell, Wash.), Sydney Coleman (Auburn, Wash./Auburn Mountainview), Hadli Farrand (Ellensburg, Wash.), Kayla Lipston (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur), Jami Marzano (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake), Zoey Olmstead (West Linn, Ore.), Kindra Scobba (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie) and Taylor Stanley (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak).
“We have a lot of girls that can play multiple positions in the midfield,” CWU coach Michael Farrand said. “Given our results in the past few years, we need a little more help getting the ball to our scorers as well as on the defensive end, and this group will fill holes on both sides.”
Two of the signees have current ties to CWU women's soccer. Midfielder Hadli Farrand is the daughter of the head coach, and midfielder Kindra Scobba is the younger sister of current CWU senior forward Katelyn Scobba.
Hadli Farrand scored 93 goals and dished out 71 assists in four seasons at Ellensburg High School, both of which are school records. She earned Central Washington Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player honors and first-team Class 2A all-state accolades as a senior.
Scobba, a four-year letterwinner at Prairie High School, had 15 goals and 16 assists as a senior, earning 3A first-team all-state honors. The Scobba sisters will be the second set of siblings on the roster in 2011, joining Hillary and Brittany Franks .
“Hadli and Kindra are both offensive and defensive midfielders who had great high school careers,” Michael Farrand said. “Both girls are quality passers and we have missed that midfield link to the forward line. I expect both players to come in and compete for immediate playing time.”
In addition to Hadli Farrand and Scobba, the Wildcats added three more midfielders in Butcher, Coleman, and Stanley.
Butcher guided Bothell High School to a 9-3-3 record and the KingCo 4A regular-season crown last fall. Coleman earned first-team all-South Puget Sound League (SPSL) 3A recognition her senior year, helping the Lions to a 9-6-3 record and a berth in the district playoffs.
Stanley played four years of varsity soccer at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. She missed her entire junior season due to injury before returning as a senior and earning second-team all-area recognition. Stanley and the Knights won the 2010 WesCo South championship with a 13-4-1 record.
“Stanley and Butcher come off the same club team and know how to play together,” Michael Farrand explained. “Both are very technical, athletic, and match our style very well.
“Coleman is an attacking midfielder. She is tenacious, has good speed and will probably play a lot of forward for us.”
On the defensive side of the field, Central added defenders Marzano and Olmstead, along with goalkeeper Lipston.
Marzano lettered from 2008-10 at Eastlake High in Sammamish, who qualified for the WIAA Class 4A state playoffs each season. Olmstead was an anchor on the defense at Oregon's West Linn High School, which gave up just 0.93 goals per game with seven shutouts. Lipston and Decatur High of Federal Way finished the 2010 season with a 12-6-1 record. She posted a shutout in the first round of the 2010 state playoffs and was named first-team all-SPSL South as a junior.
“Marzano is a very solid defender,” Michael Farrand said. “Her technical skills, in terms of her passing skills and one-on-one play, will be a good addition to our back line.
“Olmstead is the first Oregon player we have had since I have been at Central. She is a sound central defender, and wins a lot of balls. She will fill big holes when we lose some seniors in the coming years.
“We have followed Lipston for a couple of years. Her size, in terms of her height and range in the goal, will be good for us,” Michael Farrand continued. “We need to continue to improve upon our goalkeeping and we want and expect her to come in and compete for the starting goalkeeping job.”
