PORTLAND, Ore. - Six GNAC women’s soccer players were selected to the first team and five others were chosen to the second and third teams in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II All-West Region released Tuesday.

The GNAC tournament champions and regular season champions, Seattle Pacific and Western Washington, made up half of the first team honorees alone.

GNAC Player and Newcomer of the Year Isabel Farrell was selected to the team as were Falcon teammates Hannah Huesers and Shayla Page.

Huesers and Farrell ended the year as the top two point scorers in the GNAC. Huesers, a forward, led the conference in goals with 11 and Farrell, a midfielder, was tied for second in assists with seven while tying for third in goals. Page was the leader of the Falcons defense that recorded six shutouts in 2014.

The Vikings placed the last two GNAC defensive Players of the Year on the first team in Kim Cooper and Brianna Jones as well as forward Jessica Bertucci.

Jones and Cooper were part of a defense that allowed only seven goals in 21 games and Bertucci tied as WWU’s top point’s getter with 16.

Members of the NSCAA All-West Region second team included three GNAC juniors. Vikings goalie Ashley Haden, who earned 14 shutouts, and forward Catherine Miles, who tied with Bertucci for the team point’s lead, were selected. Also chosen on the second team was SPU midfielder Laura Moore who tied for second in the conference with seven assists.

The 14-member third team included sophomore defender Haley McFarlane from Montana State Billings and senior midfielder Hadli Farrand from Central Washington. Both these players led their respective teams to the GNAC championship tournament in early November.

Western Washington topped the conference with five players selected to one of the three teams while Seattle Pacific had four.

SPU’s Heusers, Farrell and WWU’s Jones were also named to the 2014 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-West Region first team last Monday. The Vikings Bertucci, Haden, Miles and Cooper were selected to the second team as were MSUB’s McFarlane and CWU’s Mackenzie Nolte.
