PORTLAND, Ore. - Western Washington will take a string of six consecutive home shutouts into Thursday’s game against Hawaii Pacific.
The game is the home opener for the Vikings, who opened their season dividing a pair of games last weekend in California.
Western Washington shutout Notre Dame de Namur 4-0 on Saturday after losing their season opener Thursday 1-0 at Chico State.
WWU goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs recorded her 24th career shutout against Notre Dame de Namur after having a scoreless string of 512 minutes snapped against Chico State.
Arthurs ranks second among Viking career shutout leaders, trailing only WWU's Teresa Fish (2003-05, 2007), who finished with a GNAC-record 31. Arthurs has had 11 shutouts in each of the last two seasons.
MSUB 27th IN NATIONAL POLL: Montana State Billings is among “others receiving votes” and is 27th overall in this week’s NSCAA national poll after posting two shutout wins last week, including a 1-0 victory over previously fifth-ranked Colorado Mines. MSUB is also seventh and Seattle Pacific is eighth in the NSCAA regional poll. The win also earned MSUB GNAC Team-of-the-Week honors.
PROVIDING AN ASSIST: Anna Geldenhuys had two assists in Western Washington’s 4-0 shutout of Notre Dame de Namur and Makana Pundyke had a pair of assists as Western Oregon opened its season with a 3-0 victory against Oregon Tech outshooting the Owls 18-4. Catherine Miles had the game-winning goal in WWU’s victory and Kym Witmer had the game-winning goal in WOU’s win.
THREE POINTS: Megan Lindsay, who led the GNAC in scoring last year with 32 points, had a goal and an assist to tally three points in Seattle Pacific’s first two games of the season. Lindsay’s goal was the game-winner in a 3-1 win against Notre Dame. She moved into a tie for 13th point in GNAC career scoring history increasing her total to 78. . .Three NNU players – Jenny Field, Sarah Staropoli and Autumn Yturbe – also had three points as the Crusaders opened with two 2-0 victories. . .Also tallying three points was Alisa Sagdahl of Montana State Billings in its two wins.
THREE-0: WOU’s win was one of four games decided by a 3-0 score in the opening weekend. Cal State Stanislaus beat Saint Martin’s and Simon Fraser and Montana State Billings beat Northern State by the identical score.
