SPU's Charette, Sawyer Named to All-American Teams

Seattle Pacific forward Jocelyn Charette has been named to the NSCAA NCAA Division II All-American women's soccer team. Charette was a second team selection.
Charette and teammate Taylor Sawyer were also named to the Daktronics All-American team. Both players earned honorable mention honors.
Charette was earlier named the 2009 GNAC Player-of-the-Year. She led the league in scoring with 37 points on 15 goals and seven assists. Sawyer anchored the SPU defense that ranked eighth nationally in goals against average (0.51).
Charette and Sawyer led the Falcons to a 16-3-2 record and the GNAC championship. SPU participated in the NCAA tournament for the seventh consecutive year. They were also among nine GNAC players, including six from Seattle Pacific, selected to the NSCAA West Region all-star squad.
Three Seattle Pacific players - Charette, Sawyer and midfielder Janae Godoy - all earned first-team honors. Sawyer was one of only two freshmen among the 24 Far West region all-stars.
Named to the second team were Western Washington midfielder Kelly Irving and WWU goalkeeper Kyle Broadbent.
Third team selections included forward Amanda Johnson, midfielder Kelsey Jenkins and goalkeeper Maddie Dickinson, all of SPU; and Western Washington defender Alicia Patten.
Earlier Charette, Jenkins and Sawyer were also named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region all-star first team selected by the region's sports information directors.
Six other GNAC players - forward Jill Webb of Saint Martin's, Montana State Billings midfielder Kari Foreman, Irvin, Viking defender Bryn Regan, Patten and Dickinson - were selected to the Daktronics second team.

Sixty-Nine Named To GNAC Soccer Academic All-Star Team

Heading up the women's academic team are sophomores Susana Contreras of Northwest Nazarene and Kelsey Jenkins of Seattle Pacific. Both players have 3.97 cumulative GPAs.
Jenkins along with two other GNAC players were also named to the CoSIDA Academic District 8 all-star team. Jenkins was a first-team selection. SPU's Jocelyn Charette of Seattle Pacific was voted to the second team District 8 selection, while MSU Billings' Samantha Boehm was voted to the District 7 third team.
Seattle Pacific and Central Washington placed the most players on the GNAC women's academic team with nine. Northwest Nazarene and Western Oregon have eight each while Montana State Billings has seven.
Ten student-athletes were named to the soccer academic team for the third time, including six women - Amber Easterbrook of Central Washington; Chelsea Libby of Montana State Billings; Kelcy Ware of Saint Martin's; Jesslyn Rahm Kellerman of Seattle Pacific; and Jenny Barton and Kasey Hostetler from Western Washington.
An additional 25 student-athletes, including 23 women, earned academic all-star honors for the second time.
