PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Under sunny skies and solid conditions, Simon Fraser junior Jaya Rampuri jumped out to a great start on Monday at the Division II Women's Golf Championships at the PGA National Champion Course.

Rampuri finished the first day with a score of 2-over par 75 and sits in a tie for 14th place. Teammate Kylie Jack, the GNAC's other competing individual in Palm Beach Gardens, carded a 9-over total of 82.

The individual competition at the NCAA Championships consists of three rounds played over three days on the 6,081-yard, par-73 course.

Rampuri got off to a hot start, making a four on the par-4 first before getting in the red numbers with a birdie on the second hole. She would make the turn with an even-par 36 before finally making a birdie on 18 to finish the day with a 75.

Rampuri finished the day with three birdies, a number bested by only 10 players throughout the field.

Jack was right there with her, at one point making birdies on three of four holes from No. 9-12. The senior was the model of consistency to start her morning, going even through the first four holes with a quartet of pars.

Rampuri enters the second round just six strokes off the pace set by Cal State San Marcos' Claire Hogle. Hogle carded the only sub-70 round in the 95-player field with a 4-under par 69.

Play will resume on Wednesday morning in Palm Beach Gardens as the top golfers in Division II return to the course for second round action.
