Wichita Falls, Tex. – Simon Fraser finished the first day of the NCAA Division II Super Regional 4 in a tie for 10th place at 30-over-par 318 on Monday at Wichita Falls Country Club. Emily Leung leads the Clan in a tie for eighth place overall after carding a 3-over-par 75, which is just two strokes behind a group that is tied for first place.

It is the first of three days of action, playing 18 holes each day at the Super Regional on the 6149-yard par-72 golf course. Leung started on hole 10 and shot an even-par 36 on the back nine, recording her first birdie of the day on the 18th hole. She then recorded pars on six of the final nine holes for a 3-over-par 39.

Belinda Lin and Jaya Rampuri each finished in a tie for 39th place at 8-over-par 80, doing so in similar fashion. Both finished at 3-over-par 39 on the first nine holes before shooting a 5-over-par 41 on the front nine. Erin Farner wrapped up the first day with a score of 12-over-par 84, which did not count towards the team’s overall score.

The Clan was tied for first place early in the day and was even as high as fourth on the leaderboard during the final three holes of the day. Simon Fraser is only nine strokes behind California Baptist for fourth place after the first round. The top three teams in the super regional advance to the national tournament.

After receiving selection as an individual for the NCAA Super Regional, Western Washington senior Jenn Paul shot a first-round score of 5-over-par 77 to finish in a tie for 20th place.

Paul is one of six golfers that is competing as an individual among 66 total competitors. The top-three individual finishers that are not from a top-three team will qualify for the national tournament.

Paul got off to a strong start to the tournament, recording pars on each of the first seven holes. Paul recorded a double bogey on the 10th hole but later rebounded with her first birdie of the tournament on hole 16. Among the six players that are competing unattached, Paul is in a tie for third place. She trails the two other competitors in her group, Mica Eastin from Rogers State and Mary Weinstein from Regis, by two strokes after 18 holes.

Play will resume on Tuesday with the second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT with Farner starting the action for Simon Fraser. Paul will tee off at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday.
