ATLANTA – Alaska Anchorage assistant coach Alysa Horn was honored Friday as a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s inaugural Third Under 30 list.

The WBCA Third Under 30 program was created to honor 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches at all levels of the game. Horn is one of 10 NCAA Div. II coaches on the list.

A former all-conference forward and 2013 graduate of UAA, Horn has been an integral addition to head coach Ryan McCarthy’s staff in 2015-16, helping the Seawolves to a 38-2 record and a berth in the upcoming national championship game.

“Alysa has been a perfect fit for our staff and our student-athletes,” said McCarthy. “She owns a superior understanding of the game and an incredible work ethic. Additionally, her abilities as a personal trainer have helped our players enhance their stamina and really aided our up-tempo style.”

A former all-state prep player at Kodiak High School, Horn was a 4-year letterwinner for the Seawolves from 2009-13, earning Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic honors as well.

This year’s Seawolves have captured the GNAC regular-season and tournament titles, the NCAA Div. II West Regional title, and set an NCAA Div. II record with their 38 victories. Ranked No. 4 nationally, UAA will face No. 1 Lubbock Christian (34-0) in the national title game on Apr. 4 (11 a.m. ADT) in Indianapolis.
