UAA's Megan Mullings (11) was named the GNAC's Newcomer of the Year.

Chambers was a near unanimous selection receiving eight of a possible nine votes from the conference coaches who also voted Ryan McCarthy of Alaska Anchorage as  the GNAC Coach of the Year.

Chambers led the GNAC in scoring this season averaging a conference record 23.9 points per game.  She set the previous record last season when she led the GNAC with a 23.1 average.  Going into the GNAC Championship tournament this week in Billings, Mont., Chambers has 1,910 career points.

McCarthy, who is a 2006 graduate of Northwest Nazarene University, led UAA to a 27-1 record and a No. 1 national ranking in both the WBCA and D2SIDA national polls.  The Seawolves, whose only loss came on New Year’s Day at home to his alma mater, take a 15-game winning streak into the tournament.

McCarthy is in his third season at UAA and has a 63-20 record.  He also served as interim coach one season at NNU and has a career record of 77-33, a .700 winning percentage.  That percentage ranks fifth in GNAC history among coaches with a minimum of four seasons.

Also being voted special awards were Kiki Robertson and Megan Mullings of Alaska Anchorage and Central Washington’s Jasmine Edwards.

Robertson was voted the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and Mullings was selected the GNAC Newcomer of the Year, while Edwards was named the GNAC Freshman of the Year.

Robertson led the conference in assists this winter averaging 6.1 per game and she also ranked second in steals averaging 3.3 per contest.  She also contributed 7.9 points per contest.

Mullings, who earned eight of nine first-place votes, led a balanced attack for the Seawolves scoring 13.8 points per game.  She was the conference leader in field goal percentage (60.9) and also ranked fourth in blocked shots with 43.  She also averaged five rebounds per contest.

Edwards helped lead Central Washington to its first playoff appearance since 2003 averaging 12.2 points per game.  She led the Wildcats in steals (38) and assists (118), ranking fourth in the conference in the latter category.   CWU first-year coach Jeff Harada was the runner-up in the Coach of the Year balloting receiving three votes.  McCarthy was the recipient of six votes.

Chambers and Mullings were unanimous selections to the all-conference first team being ranking among the top six players by all nine opposing coaches.   It was the second year in a row that Chambers, who is the lone first team repeater, was an unanimous selection.

Joining Chambers and Mullings on the first team all-conference squad are guards Suzanna Ohlsen and Aubrey Callen of Seattle Pacific, forward Kayleen Goggins of Montana State Billings and guard Jenni White of Western Washington.  Ohlsen leads the GNAC in three-point percentage, shooting 42.7 per cent (41-of-96). Last year White was the GNAC Tournament MVP leading the Vikings to the title.

Selected to the second team all-conference team are Robertson, Edwards, forward Dana Goularte of Western Oregon,  center Kayla Bernsen of Western Washington, Viking guard Taylor Peacocke and Northwest Nazarene guard Taylor Simmons. 

Simmons finished the regular-season as the GNAC leader in steals averaging 3.615, just missing breaking the GNAC record of 3.621 set by NNU’s Alysson Kollmann during the 2002-03 season.
