A 7-1 record in March which ended with a loss to the eventual national champions has earned Western Washington University women’s basketball coach Carmen Dolfo GNAC Coach of the Month honors for March.

Dolfo led WWU to GNAC and West Region titles, then coached the Vikings to a 80-76 win over Nova Southeastern in the Elite Eight before losing to Ashland, Ohio, 66-54 in the national semifinals.

Ashland then defeated Dowling 71-56 in the national championship game.

WWU finished its season with a 29-4 record as Dolfo improved her career record in 22 seasons in Bellingham to 475-173 putting her within striking distance of the 500-win plateau next season.

Dolfo earlier was selected the GNAC Coach of the Year and the WBCA NCAA Division II West Region Coach of the Year.  The GNAC award was her fourth.

Her teams have reached the post-season 21 times, including 14 of 15 years as an NCAA member, and have had 17 20-win seasons.

WWU posted a perfect 16-0 home record this season and will take a 20-game home win streak into the 2013-14 season.
