XI'AN, China – Northwest Nazarene University’s volleyball team opened its China tour with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-14 over National University Friday.

“It was a competitive match and was a great opportunity for our team to meet many players, students, university athletic officials and local fans,” NNU athletic director Bill Rapp said,

After the match, both teams and officials exchanged gifts and thanked each other for a enjoyable and hard-fought contest.

Prior to the contest, the Crusaders spent a few days touring in Beijing and Xi’an after arriving in China last Sunday.

"We visited & climbed up the Great Wall of China - it was an incredible experience - but felt like we had run a marathon," Rapp said. "Some of the most beautiful views in the world.”

Among the sites NNU visited in Xi’an, a city of more than eight million people, was Forbidden City and the Emperor's Palace.

“It was a lot of fun and we got many great photos,” Rapp said.  “We also visited Hanban Confuscious Institute and learned much more about the Chinese culture, emperors & history - very professional, informational and enjoyable."
