NEW ORLEANS — A near miss at a national record is certainly worthy enough for national recognition.

For the second week in a row, Concordia's McKenzie Warren has been named the National Track Athlete of the Week for NCAA Division II fby the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

With her throw of 57 feet, 7 inches (17.55m) in the shot put on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational, Warren is currently No. 1 in the nation in NCAA Division II.  She is also third amongst all divisions with that mark. Warren's mark is also just two centimeters away from the all-time mark held by Adriane Blewit of 17.57m that was sent in 2003 with four competitions left in the indoor season.

For her efforts, Warren also was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the week for the second consecutive week in a row.  The Boring, Ore., native captured the shot put at the Bronco Invitational, which was dominated by Division I competition, by eight feet.  Her performance is also a GNAC record.  She also placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 54 feet, 1 inches.

Warren and her teammates will return to the track this Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28, as they will participate in the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
