Track & Field Standouts Recognized With Academic Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – The academic recognition continues for GNAC track and field athletes as 86 student-athletes and 11 teams have received all-academic recognition from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

A total of 19 men and 67 women from nine of the conference’s 10 programs were selected for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. The list was topped by Alaska Anchorage senior Cody Thomas, who was named as one of three Division II Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The Seawolves led the GNAC with 17 selections. Western Washington finished with 14 selections and Seattle Pacific had 11 individuals, all from the women’s team.

In addition, five men’s squads and six women’s teams were selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. Alaska Anchorage, Central Washington, Northwest Nazartene, Saint Martin’s and Seattle Pacific had both men’s and women’s teams recognized. Montana State Billings’ women’s program also made the list.

A total of 294 men and 483 women received the organization’s individual all-academic honors. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.

In addition, a total of 117 Division II women’s teams and 66 men’s programs received All-Academic Team distinction, recognizing programs with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better.
