PORTLAND, Ore. – A pair of honorees from both Concordia and Western Oregon lead a total of five GNAC selections to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Division II Academic All-District 8 Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Team.

Cavaliers’ senior Giovanni Brown and junior Adam Brown, along with Wolves’ seniors Codi Blodgett and Tyler Jones, were among the 10 selections to the squad selected from student-athletes in the GNAC, CCAA and PacWest Conferences. The four are joined by Western Washington senior Kyler Sager.

With the selections, the five are now eligible for selection to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American Team, which will be announced on Wed., June 26.

Giovanni Brown, who has a 3.54 GPA as an education secondary learning major, competed at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, placing 11th with a score of 6,684 points. The conference champion in the decathlon scored 7,007 points to move to No. 4 on the GNAC All-Time List. Brown also placed second at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump. Indoors, Brown placed third in both the heptathlon (4,987) and the 60-meter hurdles.

Adam Brown, who has a 3.91 GPA as a chemistry major, won the GNAC outdoor championship in the 200 meters with a time of 22.07 seconds and placed third in the 400 meters in 48.49 seconds. He finished the season ranked No. 2 in the GNAC in the 200 meters and third in the 400 meters. During the indoor season, Brown won the GNAC title in the 400 meters in 49.03 seconds.

Blodgett, who has a 3.87 GPA as a business major, led the WOU sprinting corps by placing fifth in the 100 meters at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in a time of 11.24 seconds. He also competed in the 200 meters, placing 17th. Blodgett also placed eighth at the GNAC Indoor Championships in the 60 meters, clocking a time of 7.20 seconds.

Jones, who owns a perfect 4.00 GPA as a business and mathematics major, finished sixth at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:07.35 and was seventh in the GNAC Indoor Championships in the mile with a time of 4:19.69. He also ran a leg on the Wolves’ distance medley relay team that finished ninth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Jones was a Second Team Academic All-American in 2018.

Sager, who has a 3.73 GPA as a business administration major, was the runner-up in the 800 meters at the GNAC Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:54.96. He won the event indoors, claiming the GNAC Indoor Championships title with a time of 1:53.29. Sager’s season-best of 1:52.46 in the 800 meters was No. 2 in the GNAC this season.

Nominated by and voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the Google Cloud Academic All-District and All-America programs recognize student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Nominees must be of sophomore standing or higher, be a starter or important reserve on their team and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater.
