PORTLAND, Ore. - Fresh off spearheading the Alaska Anchorage women’s team to the title at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, sophomore Karolin Anders has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.

Anders scored 34 points last weekend in the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and was selected the meet's Outstanding Female Performer.

Anders (Berlin, Germany) finished first in the pentathlon and the triple jump, placed second in the high jump, took third in the long jump and placed eighth in the shot put.

In the pentathlon, she was in second place going into the final event before winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.62 to leap frog runner-up Tayler Fettig of Central Washington with 3,640 points – more than 200 points clear of Fettig. Anders won the triple jump with an indoor best of 36 - 10 1/2.

Anders joins Micah Chelimo (indoor), Ruth Keino (outdoor) and Susan Tanui (outdoor) as the only Seawolves to receive the national honor.

Currently, Anders is ranked nationally in the pentathlon (No. 3) and high jump (No. 14).
