UAA Adds Hurdler For 2012 (5/6/11)

South Anchorage's Elliott Bauer has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in track and field at the University of Alaska Anchorage

"What I am excited most about Elliott coming to UAA is his desire to excel both in the classroom and on the track," said UAA coch Friess, "He is obviously talented, but his work ethic is what stands out to me. We want those kinds of guys and we feel Elliott will be a good fit for program."

Bauer will join the Seawolves for the 2011-12 season with career bests of 14.98 in the 110-meter hurdles and 39.15 in the 300-meter hurdles. Currently, Bauer's 110-meter hurdle time would be a UAA record.

Bauer won the Alaska state championships in both hurdle events during his sophomore season and was the runnerup in 2010.

Seawolves Add Seven For Cross Country, Track (3/18/11)

Seven athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to compete in cross country and track and field for the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Joining the men's team will be Nicholas Blackburn, Brandon Brewster, Kevin Rooke and Cody Thomas, while Bryn Haebe, Valerie Massie and Grace Morgan will compete for the Seawolf women.

"I am particularly pleased with the signing of these athletes," said Friess. "They all come in with accomplished athletic histories."

Blackburn, from Courtenay, B.C, will compete in both hurdle events for the Seawolves, bringing in personal-best times of 38.53 in the 300-meter hurdles and 55.36 in the 400-meter hurdles. A graduate of Georges P. Vanier Secondary School, Blackburn was the runnerup at the British Columbia High School championships in both the 110- and the 400-meter hurdles.

Brewster, from South Anchorage High School, will compete in both cross country and track & field at UAA. At South High, he placed 14th at the 2010 Alaska State Cross Country Championships and seventh at the Region IV Cross Country Championships.

Rooke will also dress for both Seawolf squads. The Toronto, Ontario, native graduated from Don Mills Collegiate Institute, where he won multiple regional track & field championships in the distance events. Rooke holds personal-bests of 3:58 in the 1500 meters and 8:42 in the 3,000 meters.

Hailing from Marlborough, New Zealand, Thomas will compete in the decathlon for the Seawolves' track & field team in 2012. Recently, Thomas won the decathlon gold medal at the New Zealand Under-20 Championships, scoring 6,112 points. Thomas' strengths are in the 400 meters (49.2), 100 meters (10.9) and the high jump (1.97m).

On the women's side, a four-time state qualifier in the cross country, Haebe will race for both the cross country and track & field teams. The Evergreen, Colo., native is currently wrapping up her senior season, but has already qualified three times for the track & field state championships and holds PR's of 5:30 in the 1600 meters and 11:42 in the 3,200 meters.

A transfer from Everett Community College, Massie will have two seasons of eligibility in cross country and three in track & field. From Snohomish, Wash.

Massie was runner up at the 2009 NWAACC Cross Country Championships, recording a personal best of 18:40 on a 5-K course. In high school, she registered 5:06 in the 1600 meters and 11:17 in the 3,200 meters, and she has collegiate times of 18:11 in the 5,000 meters and 37:56 in the 10,000 meters.

Morgan will compete in the sprint events. From Salt Spring, BC, she comes to UAA with personal bests of 12.47 in the 100 meters and 25.43 in the 200 meters. A graduate of Gulf Islands Secondary School, Morgan placed fourth in the 100 and second in the 200 at the British Colombia High School Championships as a sophomore and fifth in the 100 and fourth in the 200 as a junior.

Montana State Billings

Two Sign For Cross Country (7/8/11)

Dylan Lammers and Ethan Wilhelm have signed National and Institutional Letters of Intent, respectively, to compete in cross country for Montana State University Billings.

"Dylan and Ethan both come from very good high school distance running backgrounds and should make the adjustment to college running with no problem," MSUB coach Dave Coppock said. 

"They're coming into a pretty well-established men's team here with a lot of upper classmen, which will give them a good start. I think they're both capable of running in our top seven at some point this season."

Lammers (5-11, Pocatello, ID -Century) was a four year letterwinner in cross country and a three year letterwinner in track and field at Century High School. His best 5k cross country time during his senior year was a 16:27.

He was also an all-state runner in cross country during his junior year in 2009 and was the individual district champion that same season. He also won a pair of district titles in track in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs during his junior season.

He qualified for the state cross country meet during his sophomore season in 2008 and helped Century to a cross country district title in 2009.

Wilhelm (6-2, Bozeman, MT) earned three letters in both cross country and track and field at Bozeman High. During his senior year, he ran a personal best in the 5k of 16:15.

He earned all-conference honors in track during his senior season and was an all-state selection in 2009. His best times during his senior year were a 2:01 in the 800 meter run and a 4:35 in the 1600.

Wilhelm earned all-state cross country honors as a junior in 2009 and helped Bozeman to three state championships and a divisional championship in 2011

Crusader Track & Cross Country announce 15 signees (7/5/11)

Fifteen student-athletes have signed Letters of Commitment to attend Northwest Nazarene and compete for the Crusaders in either cross country and/or track and field.

Joining the cross country and distance programs will be Hailey Bradshaw (Boise, ID), Keesha Brown (Boise, ID), Christina Ciampi (Turner, OR), Kaleb Fleenor (Kuna, ID), Michael Gordon (Kuna, ID), Jacob Hollander (Lynden, WA), and Jonathan Miles (Boise, ID).

Track and Field team members include Joe Cruise (Salem, OR), Caitlin Curtis (Portland, OR), Drew Galbraith (Whitefish, MT), Bradley Hammer (Meridian, ID), Courtney Schroeder (Nampa, ID), Matt Silva (Nampa, ID), Nathan Talbot (Seattle, WA), and Bobby Waldie (Damascus, OR).

Cross Country / Distance Individual Profiles

Hailey Bradshaw joins the Crusaders from Rocky Mountain High School in Boise. "We are excited to have Hailey pursue her academic and athletic career here at NNU," NNU assistant coach Jake Perry said. "She is going to make an instant impact on the team. In addition to being a talented competitor, Hailey is also a hard worker, a quality student and will bring leadership and consistency to the already experienced group of reterners."

Keesha Brown comes to NNU from Cole Valley Christian High School in Boise where she placed 28th at the 2010 Idaho 2A State Cross Country Championships. "Keesha will add depth to our women's squad this fall and we look for her to qualify in both the indoor and outdoor GNAC championships during the track season," commented NNU head coach John Spatz.

Christina Ciampi begins her career at NNU from Cascade High School in Turner, Oregon. Christina recorded personal bests of 21:38 and 5:37 in her respective events in 2010 and 2011. "Christina will bring added depth to our team this fall," Spatz added.

Kaleb Fleenor graduated from Idaho's Kuna High School where he finished sixth at the 2010 Idaho 4A District III Championships and posted a cross country personal best of 16:28. "We are very excited about having Kaleb come to NNU and join his high school teammate Michael Gordon," Spatz said.

Michael Gordon will join the Crusaders from Kuna High School where he completed an outstanding 2010 cross country season last fall that included four first-place finishes, including the 2010 Idaho 4A District III Individual Championship and a 5-kilometer personal best of 15:47 at the Gibbs Invitational.

Jacob Hollander comes to NNU from Lynden Christian High School in Lynden, Washington where he finished 11th at the 2010 Washington Cross Country State Championships last fall with a personal best of 16:12. Jacob's track and field personal bests include a 1:57 in the 800-meters and a 4:26 in the 1600-meters.

Jonathan Miles begins his collegiate career at NNU from Boise's Timberline High School. Jonathan brings a personal best of 10:32 in the 3200-meters.

Track & Field Individual Profiles

Joe Cruise joins the Crusaders from McKay High School in Salem, Oregon where he placed fourth in the javelin this spring at the Oregon 6A State Championships with a season-best toss of 181-6. Joe placed 13th at the state meet in the discus following second-place finishes both events at the district championship level. His personal bests include a mark of 46-2 in the shot put and a 154-5 mark in the discus.

Caitlin Curtis comes to NNU from David Douglas High School in Portland, Oregon. Caitlin finished fifth at the 2011 Oregon 6A State Championships in the discus following a second place district finish and recorded a season-best toss of 129-1. She placed fourth at the 2011 Mt. Hood District Championships in the shot put and produced a season-best throw of 36-3 ½. "Caitlin is an excellent all-around athlete and looks to be a triple threat at the collegiate level as she picks up the hammer throw and weight throw next year," Spatz said.

Drew Galbraith begins his collegiate career at NNU from Montana's Whitefish High School. Drew captured the 2011 Montana State High School championship in the high jump after an epic competition that featured a dual between two competitors that featured 18 jumps after all other competitors were eliminated when both Drew and his competitor cleared 6-4. In addition to his high jump exploits, Drew competed in several events on the track, posting his personal best mark of 15.92 in the 110-hurdles.

Bradley Hammer will join the Crusaders from Idaho's Meridian High School.

Courtney Schroeder comes to NNU from Nampa Christian High School where she scored 26 team points to lead the Trojans to their state record seventh-straight Idaho 2A State Girls Championship in 2011. Courtney captured both the Idaho 2A District III and 2A state championship in the 100-hurdles, was the District III champion in the high jump and was a member of the state championship 4x100 relay team. In addition to her championships, Courtney finished second in the 300-hurdles at the district championships and fifth at the state meet.

Matt Silva becomes a Crusader after graduating from Nampa Christian High School this spring. Matt will compete in the throwing events for NNU.

Nathan Talbot joins the NNU Track & Field program from King's High School in Seattle, Washington. Nathan finished ninth this spring in the javelin at the Washington 1A State Championship meet, following his third-place finish at the 1A Tri-District meet.

Bobby Waldie comes to NNU from Damascus Christian High School in Damascus, Oregon and will compete in both the decathlon and open events as a Crusader. Bobby is a two-time 1A CasCo District Champion in the javelin (2010, 2011) and finished third at the Oregon 1A State Championships this spring and eighth at the state meet as a junior.

His personal best of 176-0 was set during the spring season this year. On the track he produced a second-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump and was a member of both the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the 1A CasCo District Championships. Bobby followed districts with eighth-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and long jump at the state championships.
